Template talk:Infobox island

From YPPedia

I suggest adding a parameter to be able to un-auto-link the flag name in cases where the flag name is disambiguated for some reason. It'd be a similar implementation as to when I added the hasmonarch parameter to {{Infobox flag}} (Usage), defaulting to auto-link. I'm just getting a tad annoyed at the disambig stuff showing up in the infoboxes, and if we can fix it, why not? --Thunderbird 01:48, 1 August 2006 (PDT)

Is there any way to get the option of having a ruling flag name, and have the link be separate, such as is done with normal links done in the manner of [[blockade|glub glub]], or something like that? Asking because pages such as Wrasse Island on Midnight have flag names that reflect the page name, as opposed to the actual flag name. (In this case, the flag is Cold Steel, although the link to the page is Cold Steel (flag), which is what is shown). --HolyApoc 17:02, 12 March 2007 (PDT)

Island ID

I've added a line to the template to display a link to the island's yoweb page if the islandid field is filled in. If not, the template doesn't display the link at all. Current examples can be seen at Alpha Island (Midnight) and Epsilon Island (Midnight). I'm not sure if I quite like where I put the link but it seemed the most obvious spot to add it to.--Fiddler 07:23, 13 November 2006 (PST)

I like it just fine. --Barrister 09:36, 13 November 2006 (PST)

Merging Infobox island & Infobox island 2

Through the use of the {{Ifdef}} (Usage) template I think we can successfully merge Template:Infobox island 2 into this template, only displaying flag and governor if that information is defined when the template is called. As an additional control it should be possible to set it up so that the yoweb link only displays if both the islandID and governor fields are defined, thus preventing the rare occurrence where an uncolonized island would display a link to an un-viewable yoweb page.--Fiddler 05:59, 16 December 2006 (PST)

I'm very much in favor of this. --Barrister 14:32, 16 December 2006 (PST)
All done, now all the uncolonized islands need to be switched.--Fiddler 06:10, 10 January 2007 (PST)

If anyone else wants to have a go at updating some of these, here's some instructions:

  • Go to Category:Switch_me for a list of articles yet to be switched
  • Change infobox island 2 to just infobox island
  • Add a parameter pets=0
  • Remove an obsolete tag if there is one - the template has been updated to tag any Azure or Indigo islands as obsolete.
  • If it's Indigo, you might want to change everything to past tense, and make a note that (I think) all islands were opened in Indigo's final few weeks.

Pets

Just noticed the new parameter in islands infoboxes. Just wanted to know if ye could add some usage notes on that, if there are, or is it only meant to say in writing that there are certain pets on island? Ty! --Cecidrake 11:22, 10 January 2007 (PST)

Add the following:

|pets= a
|pettype1= b
|petname1= c
|pettype2= d
|petname2= e

And so on. If a parameter is not needed, you can delete the whole line

  • Replace a with the number of pets the island has (type the integer 0-5).
  • Replace b with the pet type, in the Template:Colorize pet format
  • Replace c with that pet's name.
  • Carry on, adding or deleting lines if need be.

If you get into trouble doing it, just leave me a message. --Piplicus 11:41, 10 January 2007 (PST)

Naming theme in infobox for colonized islands?

I think it'd be a good idea to just add the general naming theme of an island in the infobox, it's certainly as relevant as pets are. Good idea? Bad idea? Shipsofsnow 18:05, 16 August 2007 (PDT)

flagname_displayed_text

Using flagname_displayed_text stopped working, probably because of the slightly different template parsing of the new MediaWiki software. As a side effect of my change to repair it, an (optional) alternative to using flagname_displayed_text is now to use a piped flagname value of the form linktext{{!}}displaytext. --Alfwyn 14:17, 21 November 2008 (UTC)
