Defunct, dormant, or disbanded crews

To mark a crew as defunct, switch {{Infobox crew| on the first line of the infobox to {{Infobox crew(defunct)|

Politics and Booty Shares parameters

Is there much of a point to having these in (such as historical reasons)? --Thunderbird 12:24, 10 November 2005 (PST)

Defunct Reason

Per User:Kgarrett1969, I'd like to put something in for those crews that have merged. Should I make this a reason= field? It can default to none (blank), but I can see disbanded, inactive, and merged working. Only merged would need a parameter. Thoughts? --AtteSmythe 10:44, 25 September 2006 (PDT)

I like that better than what I origianally invisioned which was just a line in the box listing the crew that the crew merged into. I like the reason parameter that defaatls to Disbanded as of -Date-. Would be really nice if it worked in such a way that if merged were selected it would read: Merged into -Crew Name- as of -Date-. That would probably require 2 parameters: reason=Disbanded/Dormant/Merged and mergedwith=-Whatever the Crew Name-. Alternatively a serperate line could be created that has the header: 'Merged With' and the Reason used to update the date at the bottom with the date. At any rate it would clarify why a crew is defunt. --Kgarrett1969 10:57, 25 September 2006 (PDT)
I hadn't thought of putting it in the last line there, but I think I really like that. I'll see what I can do. --AtteSmythe 11:00, 25 September 2006 (PDT)
I'm not a big fan of magic words (for a reason= field), so I put in something much simpler. The reason= parameter defaults to the "Dormant or disbanded" text in "Dormant or disbanded as of date." So for reason=Merged into CrewX, the text woudl read "Merged into CrewX as of date," which seemd acceptable to me. Thoughts? --AtteSmythe 15:05, 9 October 2006 (PDT)

Last updated != Disbanded/dormant since

In this template, the lastupdated fields are used to set the Disbanded/dormant since... date. I realize the reasons for this are that rarely is it known when it did in fact become dormant/disbanded, and so that no changes other than the template to use are changed in the change from the Infobox crew. However, I think it would be nice to have an extra, optional field to set the disbanded/dormant date separately, and then display both of them in the infobox. What I have in mind would look rather like this. -- Thefirstdude (t/c) 16:44, 15 March 2007 (PDT)

Criteria

Does a crew have to have all members dormant to be classed as defunct or can only one or two members of the crew (not the captain) being active class it as defunct? --Sagacious (talk) 06:51, 19 June 2008 (PDT)

I've always done it as all members dormant (or the yoweb page itself deleted). --Belthazar451 07:18, 19 June 2008 (PDT)

Senior Officers

A defunct crew has no senior officers. I don't know if it's really worth keeping a list of them. Should we drop this parameter from being visible? --Sagacious (talk) 09:45, 20 June 2008 (PDT)

Why keep the captain or monarch (in a defunct flag obviously) too? Isn't the information just as valuable about the crews and flags that no longer roam the oceans but are a part of our history? I don't think the information should be removed. -- Cedarwings (talk) 19:04, 20 June 2008 (PDT)
Then I think the Senior Officer's label should read "Last known.." like the captain's does. It's hard to verify the SO's at the point of disbanding. --Sagacious (talk) 19:42, 20 June 2008 (PDT)
Perhaps rather than have "last" in front of all of it (because adding it to more than the captain means logically you should extend it to the whole box: last known flag, last known shares, etc), what about putting "Last Known:" or somesuch underneath the Ocean name in the box, so that it covers the entire box? That seems a logical compromise if we're going to make a change to it at all, and I'm not convinced we need to. --Fannon 19:55, 20 June 2008 (PDT)
