Talk:The Mariner's Muse

From YPPedia

I'm going to be attempting to actually get the Fan Arrrt images posted on here, as asked by Nemo. Please excuse my mess as I'm also kinda new to Wiki-ing.--Gloraelin 18:26, October 2, 2005 (PDT)

We actually want a new namespace added for it so the pages would be Art:blah similar to YPPedia:blah. I'll try e-mailing Calrissan about it again. --Guppymomma 18:33, 2 October 2005 (PDT)
All right, I'll hold off on that then.--Gloraelin 18:35, October 2, 2005 (PDT)
It won't make a difference to uploading images though (I did include an inquiry in the same email asking about the image issue status), so you could actually start working on that. I'd suggest prefacing the images with Art-Artistname-Imagename.whatever or something like that. Then for the description, use a template that mentions it's fan arrrt and takes one variable (the artist's name) for use in categorizing in an fan arrrt category. Let me know if you need help with this or if you have questions about it but want to do it yourself to learn the wiki stuff. --Guppymomma 18:44, 2 October 2005 (PDT)
I've already uploaded a couple of examples using this filename structure (Art-Gotagota-Nemoquote.gif & Art-ruby_spoon-sf mice.jpg). For clarity I'd suggest using the artist's forum name and the original file name they gave to the image. I'd recommend creating two templates to seperate fan art from contest entries.--Fiddler 19:33, 2 October 2005 (PDT)
I made the {{Contestentry}} template to differentiate between the fan art and the contest entries. Since I'm here, I also uploaded Haphazard's winning entry for the Wallpaper Wonders! contest.
Uh... I have no idea what a template is, so some help would most certainly be appreciated.--Gloraelin 19:58, October 2, 2005 (PDT)
Okey, I've set up a starter template. All you need to do when you upload is put into the description box {{fanart|artistname}} Above it you can describe the art if you wish or you can just have the template by itself. --Guppymomma 20:05, 2 October 2005 (PDT)
I've made a minor modification to the template to link the artist's name back to their forum profile, so it's important to spell their name just as it appears, capital letters included. Take a look at Image:Art-Gotagota-Nemoquote.gif--Fiddler 20:24, 2 October 2005 (PDT)
I've gotten them all and am slowly uploading the ones that were still hosted.--Gloraelin 15:55, October 3, 2005 (PDT)
Are you going to upload any fanart that isn't in the "Fan Arrrt" thread or the "Fan Arrrt" page? I probably shouldn't be asking this, but I was sort of curious.--Zyborg22 17:15, 4 October 2005 (PDT)
Pfft, I'm fine with questions. And if I come across any, and I remember, I'll do what I can. I was mainly starting with the Fan Arrrt thread because Nemo asked if we could.--Gloraelin 17:19, October 4, 2005 (PDT)
I'd like to see all of the art contests put up here, eventually. And of course, there's all the random threads that people toss into Mariner's Muse. If you'd like to start somewhere, pick a contest and start uploading the images. Maybe include a link to the contest thread in along with the attribution template. Be sure to post here so there's no duplication of effort, and make sure to keep the filenames to the established guidelines.--Fiddler 18:10, 4 October 2005 (PDT)
Since we're uploading fanart, is there any chance that fan stories will also be uploaded? Also, should the "Art Forum" artwork and stories have their own templates, since there were more than one "Art Forum" and they weren't contests? While we're on the subject, what should we do with avatar art? Should we exclude those, or add them to the fan art category as well?--Zyborg22 16:25, 5 October 2005 (PDT)
There's actually been some discussion on adding a new namespace, "Muse", to the wiki for the purpose of seperating out the ecyclopedic and artistic functions. Stories and writing contests are wating for that to be implemented. For the Art Forum threads, I'd use the regular Fanart template, but include a descriptive line that says "This image came from the Blah Blah art forum" and link back to the thread. As for avatar art, I'd almost consider creating yet a third category & template for it. But before we go ahead with it, we should give it some more thought as many people sell their skills as artists to create those avatars, and there may be an issue with archiving them all on the wiki.--Fiddler 18:16, 5 October 2005 (PDT)
Imagey stuff I think takes priority. For writing type things, it's not as necessary as Three Rings isn't going to expire 'em off the forum (if they do, then likely the wiki would be gone as well). Some of the writing things are also super long, so for contests with lots of entries the winning one(s) and then a link to the thread with the other entries would be sufficient. Exception to this is something like the Poetry Death Match where a wiki page with good formatting will actually put the contest into perspective better than the forum threads. Fiddler's writing project with the linked sea creatures encyclopedia is another example of something that would work well in the wiki. Beyond that, I agree with Fiddler's comments about the art. --Guppymomma 18:53, 5 October 2005 (PDT)

Fan Arrrt

Is someone actually planning to create the Fant Arrrt page? --Barrister 17:45, 7 November 2005 (PST)

Yes, I am. However, I was told up there ↑ to wait until we get a special namespace for it.--Gloraelin 20:30, November 7, 2005 (PST)
Ah missed it. I remember now that we're waiting on the Ringers for a namespace. --Barrister 20:36, 7 November 2005 (PST)
