Talk:Opal Ocean

From YPPedia

Note to all Opal Ocean contributors

Please note that the Opal Ocean will be part of a German-language wiki hosted by Three Rings. This wiki is not yet up and running, but is expected soon. For that reason, Opal Ocean articles for islands, crews, pirates, flags, etc. should be written in German. Further, the pages should all be named "Opal:{PAGENAME}" in preparation for migrating the pages to the German-language wiki. This article (Opal Ocean) should be used for the English-language summary of the Opal Ocean and should include a link to the German-language wiki. --Barrister 21:16, 7 December 2006 (PST)

A few more details. English-language pirate articles may be categorized as playing on the Opal Ocean, but only if they also play on English-language oceans. German-language pirate pages should use the Opal: naming convention. --Barrister 15:29, 8 December 2006 (PST)

Island links

I'm concerned about the island links going to the English-language wiki. That implies that there will be 2 pages per Opal island: one in German and one in English. I'd be okay if these links pointed directly to the German-language wiki instead. --Barrister 14:09, 13 December 2006 (PST)

That implies that there will be 2 pages per Opal island: one in German and one in English. Which is exactly the situation that existed when Indigo was a going concern. I think the best way to handle this would be to have a simple page that outlines the routes, spawns, and basic history (island designer and naming inspiration) here in English and point to the German wiki page for government, buildings, and the complete history. Don't bother updating the maps with purchasable, colonized, etc... All of that will be handled on the German wiki.--Fiddler 15:35, 13 December 2006 (PST)
I think in the long run if we know similar information is available on the German wiki, then there's no point in having Opal island pages here at all. However, the Deutsch YPPedia has hardly a thing on it right now. I'm not sure if the language barrier is too high to just go over there and help put in starters for the island pages or if we should just do barebones here like Fiddler suggests. --Guppymomma 15:38, 13 December 2006 (PST)
I've made a mockup of what I think we should include in English-language Opal pages. We should just document the bare facts about the ocean geography and layout and leave history and government up to the other wiki. Becuase it is another wiki, and I truly doubt that many of the more active editors from the English wiki will have a hand in the German one. Or the Chinese one. Or the Korean one. I feel that the bare-facts approach will work est if OOO decides toopen a fresh ocean, not a copy, for future foreign-language servers.--Fiddler 17:56, 13 December 2006 (PST)
According to the German wiki we're already out of date- it appears their Archipelago colours on Opal are different to those of Hunter. --Diamondblade 04:49, 30 May 2007 (PDT)
I will change the colors according to the german Wiki, it's correct for the Orion Archipel, so I'll trust it for the others --Alfwyn 08:03, 19 February 2008 (PST)
As an addition: Is it sensible to change the opal template to link to the German wiki, or is it needed for some pages here? That would fix up the island links, but it's a pretty major change that could have big consequences if it was used elsewhere. --Diamondblade 10:30, 3 June 2007 (PDT)

Hunter name conflicts

The names "Ilha da Aguia", "Ix Chel", "The Lowland Hundred", "Sayers Rock" as well as a few conflicting archipelago names are currently redirects to the respective Hunter page. Do we want to change them to disambiguation pages or add a note "... redirects here. For other uses, see ..." like it is done for Midnight islands, anticipating that a reader is more likely to look for the Hunter article than for the Opal one? --Alfwyn 17:00, 22 May 2010 (UTC)
