Are you sure about the black/gold thing for BD tournaments? --Guppymomma 10:12, 14 August 2005 (PDT)
- Oops, I meant to remove this reference, too. See my note at talk:Black Death tournaments
- Actually, I know RD had a black/green parrot, and Tedv's familliar is a gold monkey, both were obtained through events. --Markozeta 12:26, 14 August 2005 (PDT)
- I think black as one of the colors in a two color familiar are okay. Solid black as far as I know has only been held by Hades. See also my notes at the BD tournies talk page. --Guppymomma 12:36, 14 August 2005 (PDT)
Event Calendar link = teh brokenz. --Eurydice 19:06, 14 September 2005 (PDT)
A little factual nit-pick. Not all tan-familiars are awarded through the automated tournaments. There have been other events that awarded tan familiars. --Lovelytini 09:13, 31 March 2007 (PDT)

Handling the new tan & OCL white familiars
With the new familiar schedule going into effect, do we want to catalog the weekly tan familiars, or just remain exclusive to the other colors? --Thunderbird 21:08, 6 June 2006 (PDT)
- I was chit chatting with Fannon a bit and she notifed me of the new tan plan. She was thinking it would probably work well enough to do a separate list without all the fancy box stuff -- just the winner/familiar name without tracking current owner. That sounds like a good initial plan to me. For a deluded moment I thought we could entertain thoughts of tracking the owner if people really were asking for that kinda tracking, but it could become very nightmarish if there were tons. I have the vague impression that it'll be 1 a week on all the oceans, but the post wasn't overly specific about number as of my reading the thread a few hours ago. We could do some sort of subpage thing. I figure we can just pick some method and then roll with the punches as more details come out. --Guppymomma 22:37, 6 June 2006 (PDT)
- Given the fact that this is now confirmed to be 4 tan familiars per week on each ocean, we're looking at a minimum of 20 familiars per week across the board. Based on the random/alternating times of each tourney for each puzzle on each ocean, we may not even be able to get an accurate winner for each and every one. Just some food for thought. --Rixation(t/c) 09:34, 10 June 2006 (PDT)
In a sorta related vein, http://forums.puzzlepirates.com/community/mvnforum/viewthread?p=653489#653489 I would propose that we not track current owner on those as well. Perhaps a separate list for the colorful ones, tan ones, and OCL white ones. --Guppymomma 09:42, 8 June 2006 (PDT)
- My thoughts: We track OCL winners, but not OCL familiars. We do not track tan familiars on a master list, but users can put a familiar box on their userpage provided they can verify ownership. (As in, track down an admin, and because it's impossible to define "prominent editor" it has to be an admin, and show off their shoulder friend.) --Ponytailguy 09:11, 10 June 2006 (PDT)
- Could portraits also be used as proof? They have the same pitfalls as showing them to an admin; anyone can just borrow a friend's. But allowing portraits might take some of the in-game verification burden off. --Eurydice 09:44, 10 June 2006 (PDT)
- Portraits work, too. --Ponytailguy 09:52, 10 June 2006 (PDT)
- It's going to be impossible to track tan familiars. I have no problem with a player putting the familiar on his/her pirate page. Verification would be nice, but may become impractical. --Barrister 12:52, 10 June 2006 (PDT)
- Portraits work, too. --Ponytailguy 09:52, 10 June 2006 (PDT)
- I'm also going to agree that tan familiars will just be too difficult to keep a list of. I think PTG and Barrister's ideas sound solid enough to work for me. :) --Yaten talk 19:25, 10 June 2006 (PDT)

For the tan familiars, I think we can set up a simple page with spaces for each week's tournaments, set up several weeks in advance, and an easy place for the winner to be notated. Something like this:
After a while we can look at different formats or even archiving pages to prevent overlong pages.--Fiddler 21:14, 12 June 2006 (PDT)
- Better idea. Check out my sandbox.--Fiddler 19:03, 13 June 2006 (PDT)
- *Purrs* I like it: It's tan like the familiars, and allows for winners and/or editors to add names at their leisure. But I'm sure others will have particular ideas for improving the layout or color scheme (I'm no good with that kind of stuff); I suppose it is a bit...Drab, what with all that tan and all...Would the familiar icons be included with each winner, there, or only on pirates' actual pages? --Emufarmers 19:12, 13 June 2006 (PDT)
- I was thinking the icons would appear once at the top of the page, not necessarily with the winners. Since there's only three possible prizes I don't see a need to include them in every fourth line of the page.
- Of course, this may change depending on what the OMs do regarding parrots.--Fiddler 19:18, 13 June 2006 (PDT)

Record sheet?
I was browsing through a thread and came across a post written by Kerix [near bottom of the page]
I think it would be neat to include a record list of colored familiars won, in a way the regular wiki does? There are too many tan ones I think to track but colored ones, which are deemed more valuable anyway, can be kept easily recorded. Comments?

Needs Illustration
I got the illustration requested earlier today, but then I went and had lunch, and it got forgotten from there. Will be in place sometime tomorrow. --Ponytailguy 23:45, 22 October 2006 (PDT)
Familiars on pirate yoweb pages
Are familiars listed automatically or do they have to be added manually like hearties? --Arminius 10:46, 3 January 2007 (PST)
- Neither. Only familiars that have been named and are held in the pirate's booty will show up on the info page. Un-named familiars and familiars held in wardrobes won't appear.--Fiddler 11:08, 3 January 2007 (PST)
Pricing
Looking carefully at Sashamorning's recent edit, it seems that a new sentence is needed to describe pricing for tan familiars. 400K for a tan one is, although slightly unrealistic, by no means outlandish. Also, I have never seen a colored familiar going for 6 million. --Thefirstdude 16:50, 10 February 2005 (PST)
- True, but I have seen auctions for colored familiars go above 5 million. Personally (and anecdotally, I know), I would never sell my familiar for, well, quite a bit over 6M. I'm not trying to make unnecessary changes, but rather to give a person interested in purchasing familiars a realistic idea of how much they would cost, and to be as accurate as possible. That being said, I'll adjust it down to 5M, since the criticism seems reasonable, and also adjust the tan fam sentence to something a bit more reasonable as well. Sashamorning 17:26, 10 February 2007 (PST)
- Ah, that looks better. I reworded it slightly - if you don't like it, feel free to re-reword it ;) --Thefirstdude 5:45, 11 February 2007 (PST)
Page recreated
Due to some nasty vandalism I had to delete the page and recreate it. If someone really needs to know what the edit history said before, any of the YPPedia administrators should be able to help you out. --Guppymomma 02:49, 14 January 2009 (UTC)
Serpent misinformation
This is said in the current version "Ippolitos and serpents are unique from the other familiars in that they are obtained from treasure chests, not contests." Now, this is true for the seahorse, but it has not been proven where Serpents can be aquired from, so that part should be removed, correct?--Bhorror 02:20, 26 February 2009 (UTC)
OCL white serpents
With regards to the part that says "Pure white monkey, octopus and parrot familiars are reserved for winners of the Olympic Champions League", maybe we should add that the latest OCL team rumble event has a white serpent as the prize =) (I assume that this colour combination is only available for winners of the OCL - does anyone know for sure?). Hatted Familiars
We need a little more about them; am I right in saying that the hat changes depending on the hat their pirate is wearing or what? CSIMPSON —Preceding unsigned comment added by Opugno (talk • contribs)
- Octopus with hat familiars are only known to wear sleeping caps, therefore would not change hats according to the pirate's headgear. Also this type of familiar can't be recolored. Details on monkey familiars wearing (feather?) hats need to be worked out. -- Faulkston 19:55, 11 January 2014 (PST)
