Getting Help
Contents |
Arr! Never let it be said that a Pirate is without a little help from their friends. Indeed, all but the most scurvy Pirates will be able to lend a hand to young swalliwag newly rescued from a desert island, if they are asked nicely.
Read all about it!
Please note that a great place to start is by reading the available documentation, checking the FAQs, consulting the YPPedia wiki, and even the forums might have an answer if ye search for it.
Greeters
Greeters are helpful folks who have volunteered to assist young players, known affectionately as 'Greenhorns' or just 'Greenies' for short, after their green names. Greeters in your locality can be found by typing /who, where they appear near the top, or by looking for their Pink names:
Greeters should be happy to answer your polite questions, either by approaching them or using tell (for example, /tell greeterjane Ahoy! How do I get a job?). Remember that they are Pirates too, and their only reward for helping out new players is a warm happy feeling, so treat them with respect.
Jobbing with a Crew
When ye takes a job with a player crew the Officer in charge and other shipmates will usually be happy to answer questions and help ye out.
Ocean Masters
The Ocean Masters are Puzzle Pirates official support staff who are always available online to help folks. Type /who to see any OceanMasters currently online. You can identify Ocean Masters at the docks by their blue names.
Ocean Masters should be contacted if you have a serious gameplay problem, issues with another player or even a simple question. Simple questions should be submitted via petitions, while issues with another player should be submitted by complaint. Both petitions and complaints can be accessed via the 'Ye' tab by clicking the 'help' button. In a dire emergency, you can send an Oceanmaster a /tell. Remember, though, that they are busy people with a lot going on, so it may take 'em a while to respond to yer question. Developers also have blue names, and they are also busy pirates, so don't be offended if they are rushing about and don't always have time for questions.
General gameplay questions
If you have a question about the game or our policies which require an Oceanmaster's assistance, please submit a petition. To do so, click on the "Ye" tab, then click the "Help" button, and then click "Petition." Your question can be typed in here, and will be answered by an Oceanmaster as soon as possible.
Issues with other Players
If you are having a problem with another player that cannot be solved between you, or someone is just being flagrantly offensive, please immediately use the /complain commmand. Type /complain, then the name of the individual, followed by a few words of description.
/complain rudepirate Wouldn't stop being offensive
This sends us a record of your recent chat history, and places a note in your file and that of the player in question. The chat history is the most useful part of this, so your quick description can be fairly brief if the chat history speaks for itself. Please note that in cases where there's no clear misbehaviour in the chat history it may be difficult for the OceanMasters to take action.
The OceanMasters review complaints regularly, but if an OceanMaster is online you are encouraged to alert them to particularly offensive pirates and let them know that you've filed a complaint.
Reporting Bugs
If you are playing and encounter a Bug not in the Known Issues, please use the Report a Bug button on the Pirate Panel. Please describe the bug properly, for example 'I went to the shop and tried to buy a shirt and it gave me the message m.outofshirts.' rather than 'shop is broken.' Thanks.
In the event that you can't get to the Ye Panel (which does happen sometimes), type /bug followed by your description, e.g.
/bug I can see Cleaver's ghost at the doorway! I fear for me rum!
If you can't run the game at all, then use the Puzzle Pirates Support form to describe your problem. Both of the above in-game options have the useful property of sending us a log of your client's recent activity, so if you're going to email a bug it should be well described and, by definition since you can't run the game, quite severe.
Billing Issues
If you're having problems with your billing issues, chances are most likely that you won't be able to find assistance with it in-game, as most Oceanmasters don't have access to your billing information. Any questions about your payments should be submitted using the Puzzle Pirates Support form.
Contact Support
If you have a serious issue that can't be solved by the above, by all means contact us using the Puzzle Pirates Support form and we'll try to work it out!
