Eta Island was one of the first of the "new style" of islands released by Three Rings during the Colonization/Expansion era. It featured an extensive pre-existing town (though the buildings were fake until placed by the governor) as well as a lush, expansive forest, and never-before-seen ruins artwork. At the time of its release, many claimed it as their favoite island design, including Cleaver.

The island was taken in the final rounds of colonization of the Azure Ocean near the end of Beta. The winner of the bidding was the flag the Honest Pirates made up of two crews who left Old Spice: the Yellow Jackets and The Sirens, as well as several other formerly unallied crews, like The Emerald Raiders The one and only Governor was Kosh and other notable island contributors were Saynata, Mrpepsi, Cedric, Hack, Dwarvy, and Dorel, among others.

The flag was well prepared for the colonization, allowing the island to be mostly completed by the end of the Azure Ocean. Liquidation of a lot of these resources allowed the Yellow Jackets to submit a lot of /glory and join the 1 million poe+ list on the Azure memorial on Alpha Island of Midnight.
