User talk:Icex05
Since I noticed that you've reverted your talk page... well, I'd appreciate a word :-/
I'm not an administrator, but having been a semi-regular Y!PPedian for a few months now, I know the deal. Almost everyone, when they first turn up, wants to "fix" stuff, wants to help, wants to be active and useful to the Y!PPedia community. And they make mistakes. And their talk page lists them all.
But let me tell you one very important thing; nobody's pissed off at you. Even though the stuff on your talk page might have sounded exasperated or terse to the point of rudeness, the administrators are extremely forgiving for new people who genuinely want to do good for the wiki. If you just edit every page to say "scuppering booty bilgedrinker", then, yes, you'll get in trouble, but if all you're doing is trying to be helpful, you get a lot of leeway. You're firmly in the latter category.
Even though now it seems like half your edits are reverted and reported back on your talk page, you'll get better. Everybody makes mistakes... browse one of the administrators (or even the OM/Ringers') contrib logs sometime and you'll see a lot of revisions and edits and "oops, didn't mean to do that"s. Trying to be perfect out of the box is pointless and stupid, but as we learn the policy, practice, and culture of the wiki, we get better at it, and suddenly, you're the one reverting other people's booches.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that you should never be ashamed of your talk page. I'm going to assume that, like most people who focus on the wiki, you've got your sights on an administrator position. And believe you me, you'll be much more likely to get it if your record, warts and all, is accessible to the administrators when the time comes to vote. If you try and cover your tracks, or pretend like you've never made mistakes, not only are you only fooling yourself, but it looks mighty suspicious, and people with dodgy records rarely get put into positions of authority.
So, yeah. Hope I haven't droned too much. Just don't be afraid of your talk page... it'll all be water under the bridge in a week or two. --Teeg 15:18, 7 March 2006 (PST)
- I cleared it mainly to clean it up. I though it looked a bit full. Now you've explained all that (which made alot of sense) Please revert it back :-) I also felt I had slipped up far too often, and my talk page would reflect bad on me, but that wasn't the main reason for me deleting it all. One day I'll get it right ;-) --Icex05 15:25, 7 March 2006 (PST)
- It's actually fine to do cleanup. Everyone differs on their talk page in whether or not they archive it or wipe it. Technically everything can be viewed by looking at the history. Honestly though, I don't actually look at a user's talk page when they've been nominated. I look at the quality of their more recent edits and their general demeanor when participating in discussions, along with their wiki experience/knowledge plus game knowledge. But as PTG said, don't freak out if someone points out a mistake or something as nobody's tallying points when it's obvious that a wiki editor's just putting a good faith effort into well...editing the wiki :) --Guppymomma 15:30, 7 March 2006 (PST)
- Understood :-) Wish I could change my username though.... --Iceuk 15:33, 7 March 2006 (PST)

- You can... I myself own ponytailguy (main) and mykeroo (greenie altz reprezent yo!). Just register a new account (not alt, account), and the forum and wiki names are saved as well. --Teeg 15:34, 7 March 2006 (PST)
- A number of admins use a separate one for the wiki and one for the forums/game. guppymomma/lorkiria, yaten/blue_jacket, nicksterv/nickster_v, etc. Just make sure that if you put in for adminship that you mention what your previous wiki editing name was so we see you've been around for longer than the new account. --Guppymomma 15:39, 7 March 2006 (PST)
Although I don't really want to start a new account, I might as well, as this username looks a tad silly... --Iceuk 15:41, 7 March 2006 (PST)
- After being sniped twice, I'm going to type quicker and not preview! I agree with the letting us know your previous wiki name, as that is the only way we will remember that your responded positively to criticism. =D --Fannon 15:43, 7 March 2006 (PST)
- Agreed. And I fixed Teeg's bad linkies. Bad Teeg! :) --Fannon 17:40, 7 March 2006 (PST)
- All sorted! --Sagacious 17:48, 7 March 2006 (PST)
