Some notes on formatting

A few notes on formatting I've used here:

  • Please use ISO dates (YYYY/MM/DD). The originals are likely to be incorrect by Pirate Time, as my board is probably set to NZST. For that reason I only gave dates- feel free to update the list with accurate dates and times as necessary, but make sure they're in Pirate Time.
  • The links follow the format of "X's first post." or "X verbs" or "X also" or "Clause," so that they remain short, and so the page has something other than links. Please try to stick to this format when updating.
  • I've only linked the FIRST reply in a thread. Linking every reply a specific user ever makes is probably too much work for any forum list.
  • Try to keep summaries brief.
  • I deliberately didn't comment on who's posting with these accounts because it breaks the RP immersion, which is the biggest reason I feel people would want to read these posts.

I think that the dates should actually be switched to match others that are used in the Yppedia (ie. 24 June 2007). While I do not prefer this date format, personally, I think that consistency is more important in this case. -- Cedarwings (t/c) 10:12, 24 June 2007 (PDT)

Necessary?

I'm wondering if this page should even exist; the people posting as Brigand Kings are players, and not Ocean Masters or any other OOO staff. Some players spontaneously created these accounts and began posting with them, without OOO approval or even prior notice, and while they've as yet done no apparent harm, nothing they say should be construed as approved by OOO. Is it a good idea, then, to have list of posts by players just because they're roleplaying? --Eurydice 12:13, 24 June 2007 (PDT)

I understand the need to question this page, and it's really probably unnecessary (although hysterical and quite cool ^_^). On the other hand, I think that 54x's original reason was to comment on the BK conversations on the forums. That might be better done as notations on their respective pages? Or does OOO not want these acknowledged here at all? Sashamorning 23:16, 24 June 2007 (PDT)
Well, considering that these are just random players, I'm not sure we should give their posts any special treatment. I would be reluctant to add forum-BKs' statements to the wiki-BKs' pages. If the forum-BKs were really sponsored by OOO, I might consider it. But really, what's to prevent me from creating a forum-Vargas account and posting, "The Ringers support cannibalism."? --Barrister 23:23, 24 June 2007 (PDT)
No, no, I see your point, even though I haven't seen anything so far to indicate that the "BKs" are claiming to be from OOO or that they speak for OOO, although there is some speculation. (Um, are they?) I was more suggesting just some sort of notation on their pages that the BKs were posting in the forums, more akin to an event, rather than anything "official," but I agree, it's better to have less than more in this case. (That being said, I still think it's quite cool.) Sashamorning 23:49, 24 June 2007 (PDT)
I was linked directly to the talk page. I'm not sure about an article linking to their posts, but I'm glad this talk page existed! Until I was linked here, I was not certain if the BK posts were OOO employees having a bit of roleplaying fun, or just regular players. As Eury said, so far not knowing hasn't been an issue, but it could become one, and this is the only place where I've seen "official" word that the bk posts are NOT in fact "official".--Muroni 23:55, 24 June 2007 (PDT)
But seriously, I think a list of these posts is really cool, as long as there's a disclaimer saying very clearly that these posters are not endorsed by OOO in any official capacity. -- Thefirstdude (t/c) 00:46, 25 June 2007 (PDT)
If my contribution is worth anything here, not only do I consider this page a waste of time, as a forum search on the Brigand King usernames would reveal all posts by those users, but I also consider the sheer fact that players have been allowed to continue posting as Brigand Kings highly unusual. Whilst they (arguably) can do less damage than, for example, someone posing as an Ocean Master, it still offers a certain amount of power that players shouldn't have access to. I also think roleplaying characters should not get a page that, no matter how hard you try, will still make the forum-BKs look like they are semi-endorsed by OOO. Take it down. --Parrrdner 07:58, 25 June 2007 (PDT)

I've moved the page into 54x's user space. Feel free to comment in the Brigand King article that players are posting as the BK's in the forum along with a link to the user profiles that are being used. --Guppymomma 13:57, 25 June 2007 (PDT)

Thanks Guppy. Wow, I go to sleep and... ;) Seriously though, this is fine. I wanted to list them because, regardless of who posted them, they were EXCELLENT roleplayers. I understand that keeping it up in the public space regardless of disclaimers could be bad for OOO- you made the right choice in a situation I hadn't really considered. Also, thankyou for clearing up that they're not associated with OOO, Eurydice. :) --Diamondblade 10:00, 26 June 2007 (PDT)
