Template talk:Viridian

From YPPedia

Would it be possible to have it so that the ocean templates are in the format of {{ocean|name|type}} where the type is optional so that the end result is [[name (Viridian type)|name]]? This would make it useful to link to such crews and flags as Northern Lights and other articles where you have more than the ocean name in the brackets. -- Vorky

Something like this? -- Thefirstdude (t/c) 18:47, 27 May 2007 (PDT)
Yes, exactly like that -- Vorky 19:20, 27 May 2007 (PDT)
For starters, as of May 22, 2007, there were 1104 building articles, 1184 crew articles, 622 articles and 3123 pirate articles. So to make this change would take a very long time to move every article. Other problems that exist...
  1. Flags or crews that exist on multiple oceans.
  2. Flags or crews that exist with the same name as a defunct crew on the same ocean that had nothing to do with the current crew other then the name.
  3. Pirates with the same name as a crew that play on multiple oceans.
  4. Buildings that exist on different islands on the same ocean and other oceans.
I'm not saying that a new naming convention isn't possible, but it would need to incorporate all situations that exist. -- Cedarwings (t/c) 22:11, 27 May 2007 (PDT)
Er, Cedarwings, I don't believe that discussion is going on here. All that is being discussed is a minor change to this template :-) -- Thefirstdude (t/c) 22:20, 27 May 2007 (PDT)
Yep, I'm not planning on starting to rename or move all the articles, just having the template capable of linking to those articles that are already in the (Ocean type) format, of which are a few examples now. So
  1. Not an issue, not planning on renaming existing articles
  2. You can either incorporate the article in the new page, or move the old one to (defunct) as is currently done
  3. Again I'm not planning on moving or making a policy that new articles have to be in that naming format
  4. Ditto
Yes a more flexible template would be nice, and this change is a step in the right direction I believe, feel free to suggest improvements
