Template talk:Skellie header

From YPPedia

Should we add a line somewhere that says to explicitly not add names that aren't under the control of the pirate adding? Someone added Lelantos to one of the lists over a month ago (May 20), and he recently removed his own name. This is mostly with the OMs in mind, since we won't really be able to police additions for other names. --Thunderbird 18:18, 11 July 2006 (PDT)

The cynic in me asks, "Why bother?" When it comes to the skellie lists, it's pretty clear people don't read the directions. :-/ --Barrister 23:16, 11 July 2006 (PDT)
I've been getting concerned about people adding two, even three names at a time. I understand that people are sometimes adding alts, but sometimes I get the feeling that something fishy is afoot. We could state that if you're going to add multiple people to the list, you should state why, although that might end up not working too well. We could also mention that adding others' names to the list without their permission can get you banned (actually, I don't really know if it can; we don't seem to really have any policy on how to handle that; having one might help deter abuse, even if it was just an explicitly-stated wiki ban for such things).
I'm also concerned about people removing others' names from the list: I check the diff for each edit to the lists, so I can usually spot any removals, even several hours later, but I'm not error-proof (it can be hard to know if someone is removing his or her own name from the list, as your recent edit shows, although I should have checked the history for that one). Particularly since many people add their names to the list and then never look at it again...I guess the potential for abuse or bungling is a small price to pay for the handiness of the list.
Oop, sniped by Barrister; yeah, there is that, but if we leave a note on people's talk pages every time they booch adding their name, the non-cynic in me thinks it might get people to check things over. (We could even have a subst template to leave on talk pages for this.) --Emufarmers 23:22, 11 July 2006 (PDT)

Skellie Alert

Could we have a reference to Skellie Alert added to the header? I doubt many people bother to manually send tells except to hearties (and hence wouldn't use the list) -- Vorky 19:28, 14 April 2008 (PDT)
