Talk:Puzzle scoring

From YPPedia

A few things:

I've drafted alchemy and shipwrightery. Please fix mistakes and confirm/deny, or fill in anything I've left with a question mark.

Distilling is correct as far as I know- I've never tried to determine whether puzzling faster increases your rating here or not. Everything else is certainly correct.

I also clarified cascading as it was a little too technical, and I felt that it's better to use plainer language wherever possible. I'm still not sure about "sequential" but it's hard to replace.

As far as I know no Yohoho puzzles use exponential, logarithmic, harmonic, or other complex multipliers, so unless the ringers throw us one in ironmongery, I suggest we just drop the term "linear multiplier" and stick with "multiplier". --Diamondblade 06:44, 23 May 2007 (PDT)

I went over this again. I've removed the open question on bilging as the current description looks accurate. (it's much less time-affected than other puzzles, and piece efficiency is HUGELY important) As per above I removed the previous open question on Distilling, as nobody has objected. I expanded on gunnery a bit and clarified a few things. Finally, I added a few open questions on gunnery and one on carpentry. --Diamondblade 02:31, 3 June 2007 (PDT)
I agree the "linear multiplier" (or "linear" anything) is quite overly (in)accurate. My original idea was just to indicate whether doing the same action 4 times in a row is different from doing it 2 times, then doing something else, then doing it 2 times again. Of course this can be hard to measure, but so are other things, and I think it is important information for playing the puzzles. The term "linear" should probably be changed, but I think it'd be good to convey the information with some other term. How about "increasing"? The problem with that is that it gets easily confused with the term "increase", which refers to the points... hmm. --Ileden 03:26, 31 December 2007 (PST)
In fact I think I'll change "increase" and "decrease" to "plus" and "minus" which are more readable as well. That way "increasing" can be used instead of "linear". Hmm, while I'm at it, I might do some rewriting of the text to make the intro a bit more clear as well. --Ileden 04:46, 27 June 2008 (PDT)

Anyone have any success charting the factors that determine score in Treasure Haul? It seems to be largely undocumented so far, and I've seen a couple of complaints from people floating around the various forums that they can't manage better than a rating of Good in spite of their best efforts. I have yet to stumble accross anyone's oppinions in the form of a guide, either. --Fancyadmiral 11:32, 22 April 2008 (PDT)

As a small usability improvement, it might be a good idea to include small images of the puzzles to help read the chart (it's much easier to find the right place with images as a guide), and that would also help remind the reader of the puzzle board in question (which associates the presented information better with the game). --Ileden 04:50, 27 June 2008 (PDT)

Should rigging be added or is that one of the puzzles that has its own page?
