OM involvement
Based on what I have seen....
- You want the entries mailed to the OMs - postage could be hefty for our non-American players, and hard to come by for perhaps the minor player population. (Gee Mom, can you give me the money to mail X to California?)
- You want the OMs to then judge said entries.
- You want the OMs to then give out the prizes for the winners.
-This all goes well out of the realm of standard OM involvement and sounds alot like an OM hosted event, not a pirate hosted one.
Some tips to help you out....
- Have the entries be photo submitted to the forums. No concerns at all for postage or mail delays (which would then delay your judging process)
- You and a panel of perhaps seasoned game players judge said entries
- You provide the prizes for your event (OMs will provide trinkets if they feel your event warrants them.) Shandra (Taco)
- Ahoy matey, and thanks fer the feedback!
- I agree there would be more OM involvement than some other events in this contest, but I think that through organising entries, supervising their forum threads and answering questions from participants I'd still have a large part to play. I'd be happy to give out prizes, but as discussed elsewhere I'm not sure that fits with the OM policy on trinket prize distribution.
- As for the question of postage, I think that it would mean more to the contestants if it was judged by OMs and/or Ringers. I've been about since beta but I've kept a fairly low profile and I doubt many people would care what I thought about their photo. One OM is interested so far, but I'm hoping to convince more OOO employees to volunteer as judges by tempting them with the free stuff!
- Perhaps the answer is to do both! I could supply various prizes and renamed ship or similar for the best photo as judged by a panel, then people that go to the effort of sending something through the post get a participation prize, and are also in with the chance of winning the grand prize. I think a free T shirt would be justified, but it could just be a familiar or something run-of-the-mill like that. --Tfoc 12:07, 3 February 2006 (PST)
- OM involvement is limited to OM only activities (broadcasts, brigands turned off, etc). They will not otherwise referee or judge events.
Sorry, please refer to the proposal section on the original E2 post http://forums.puzzlepirates.com/community/mvnforum/viewthread?thread=30159 (number 6 bullet 2) Shandra (Taco)
- Thanks again! If it's permitted to ask the devs to pick the winners (and they agree) I'll do that. If not, it'll have to be photos only and 'celebrity' player judges. --Tfoc 23:38, 3 February 2006 (PST)
Are you going to have a special thread for people to post their bad Game Design suggestions in? If all contestants start their own thread, this contest could spam the GD forum rather badly. -- BlackBeth (Feylind)
- Ahoy there! Good question. I had thought about this, and while it would be nice if each entry had a thread in GD for added realism I can understand the spamming concern. I'll add it to the list for discussion in the workshop phase, but as you say a single thread for post submissions would probably be more practical. --Tfoc 09:55, 4 February 2006 (PST)
Humorous...
As a silly alt, I really approve of this. It's not like I've never had bad or offtopic ideas/posts in game design. No sir, not me :-).
The idea of deliberately encouranging bad ideas should make Captain Cleaver go crazy. Except that he already is. Longjohngrey

First of all, I agree with you about entries covering anything on the Anti-list. That should be an automatic disqualification, and for the exact reason you mentioned.
This idea may spam GD if it's not in a specific submission thread, but if you do a specific thread, it looses much of it's appeal, for me. The total appeal of this, for me, is to do just like you did in your example. Totally straight faced go in and act like I am really very serious, "I think we webcams should be a requirement to play YPP, and OM's should randomly connect and check our webcam to enforce rules about decency, such as players must be fully dressed at all times while playing YPP, both players hands must be clearly visable above the keyboard at all times while playing YPP". I'd totally spend hours and hours obsessing over some dead-pan joke to play on the crew in GD, and your idea is a very cute prank to play. You're right, the booched shirt is an extremely good prize to offer.
Cute, I love it. Please baby Nemo don't cry, or Faulky, or our Captain, but please, just for a short time, let us spam the heck out of GD with this event!!!--Muroni 06:14, 9 February 2006 (PST)
- Ahoy, and thanks fer yer kind words! Opinion seems divided on the GD spam issue, so in the spirit of the event I think we should ask Liz to set us up with a poll thread to decide.
- I know you all secretly miss them. --Tfoc 21:23, 9 February 2006 (PST)
