Talk:Event E2/Proposal imwamphyr
I believe only Players who have bought doubloons on Sage and Viridian can download ice. That would really limit the people on those oceans allowed to play. Have you considered doing the puzzling events on each ocean and then having them compete against each other in the actual "feud"? That way you could keep your mixed ocean teams without having the players go to Ice. CountCristo
Answer
Thank you for reminding me. My original idea was actually to run one of each puzzle event on each ocean (one gun bake off on one ocean, one sails on another, one bilge on another, and then carp on the final). The only issue with that is, the time constraints. With the final shortlist of all these events competing during the same period of time, there will already be overlap, and I was trying to make the event a little shorter.
I had considered before that Dub'ers could not be officers, and that did not matter, so I ruled the issue out. I had forgotten they did not have access at all without some purchase, and that IS a problem. Considering I was already leery of using ice because of problematic downloads, this valid question of yours leads me to think it would be best if I simply ran the event on Sage. I chose Sage as the alternate ocean only because it was the youngest ocean, so If I do not require new characters to be created, at least with it being the youngest, the actual Sage Players have less of an advantage than their counterparts would on the older oceans. We'll have to think on this idea a bit more. Just knowing each bake-off can last 1-2 hours, I figured the contestants would be very burned out doing them back to back, and I would be limited in my ability to provide adequate compensation in prizes for 4 full fledged bake-offs. My own reguests for help =)
I'm pretty confident of my own ability to judge with impartiality, and the only portion of this event that will be open to judging is the final written entries into Cream of the Crop. However, if the heaven's should fall and my event should be considered for a Familiar, then my judging needs to be more strictly controlled to allow the contestents the same confidence to it's impartial process. Some ideas I'd love feedback on follow.
- Survey Monkey This neat website allows free users to receive 100 results per month. They don't detail exactly how that goes, and I figured I could test it out this month. I had researched it for the Pirate Feud portion, but ruled it out due to it's limitations. One of the things I liked about it, however, is that it has the ability to block repeat users from one IP, and also to track via cookies to make sure only one entry per user is permitted. It also has the ability, if the survey question is multiple choice, to immediately show you current voting results after you submit your entry (or that feature can be disabled, too). Finally, it has the ability to password protect your survey, so only certain users have access, or to limit it to only certain users. I could define a list of users, and only they can take the survey. I thought this might be good for voting for this event. Perhaps I could allow XinsertnumberX monarchs from each of the oceans to vote (island holding only, minimum fame, something to make sure it's impartial), with myself as a tie breaker if needed. Or perhaps it would be, the other teams from Pirate Feud who would vote on the winner, etc.
- Should I somehow request users to make their entries blind, and simply do the judging all myself? I doubt any of the contestants has the faith in my impartiality that I myself do *winks* It's been suggested they could email to me, however I'm concerned their email addresses alone can often clue you in on their identity.
- Should I consider perhaps a commitee of judges, perhaps one from each ocean, who have already won a familiar on those oceans or some other qualifyer?
- What other ideas can you offer to try to ensure impartial voting? While again, this is not a huge concern for me, I do realize this is a huge concern to the contestants who would be competing.
I think that's about it...--Muroni 10:24, 8 February 2006 (PST)
Judging
I think a panel or judges or voting on your survey page would both work out fine. I also think the blind entries would further help with your panelist (or contestants) stay inpartial. You could have entries e-mailed to you and then post them for the judges to read and vote on, and make it grounds for disqualification if they reveal which is their entry. (A bit like Synful's song contest.) CountCristo
