Talk:Event E2/Proposal Shandra
You mentioned Bluetta's event rather vaguely, so I thought this might be of some help. --Gloraelin 11:57, 16 January 2006 (PST)

Mold?
A question about the no-mold rule--Might it be possible that someone would want to depict one of the YPP elements that is subject to decay/dusting? (i.e. sword, clothes, etc.) If so, couldn't mold add a flavorful dimension? If mold isn't allowed, are foods that are otherwise decayed/desiccated okay, even if they are not moldy? --Lizperk23 18:57, 22 January 2006 (PST)
LOL - flavorful- Bwahahhahahahah Sorry, that hit my funny bone....
Well, if you put it that way, I guess it can be allowed. My thought process on it was mainly trying to prevent an "Oops I left it out a bit too long and it started to grow hair" Will reword it so it can be appropriate to both. Thanks for the idea, it really hadnt crossed my mind someone might want to incorporate mold into their sculpture. Shandra (Taco)
Scoring/Judging
I thought I'd share my experience from the pumpkin carving event with respect to scoring and juding. It went very smoothly, and like this contest, multiple pictures were submitted for each entry. I received entries via e-mail, stripped them of their creator's identity, and posted them in a web gallery. Any relevant commentary from the artists can be added in the gallery comments. The gallery address was then given to the judges so that they could look through all the entries. After a thorough examination of the entries, the judges were asked to vote via a password protected web survey (password is trickortreat), scoring each entry with a numerical value of 1 to 5. When I saw that all the judges had voted, I exported the voting data and calculated the winner. There was a tie, and in my event I simply asked an OM to break it. After it was over I attached pirate names to the web gallery images and posted the gallery address to the contest thread.
If you only have three judges for this event, you may want to take a different approach to voting to avoid numerous ties. A sorting round (to narrow the field to, say, 20 entries if you are giving out 10 prizes), followed by a numerical scoring round would probably do nicely.
At any rate, if you want any assistance setting up a web gallery, let me know. I'd be happy to help you set that up and I'm sure I could hook you up with all the hosting space you'd need. Just don't ask me to judge. I really want to participate in this.

Thanks for all the great info Ish. Excellent idea. And no, lol wont ask you to judge.
Workshop Ironing
Judging - What I am thinking is taking a part of what Ishtar suggested - having contestants email me their pictures and synopsis etc, then I would post them to the event forum. - This is a simple way for everyone to look at the entries while at the same time keeping it annonymous on who submitted what. I just completed an anonymous type of forum event and I, too, began with thinking I could just post the entries to the forum thread myself to keep anonymity, but soon realized 122 entries were too difficult to keep together in the forum thread so I made a separate webpage to still be able to post the entries anonymously. Also, you may want to specify whether or not you will receive attachments(I don't open attachments of any kind normally so I wasn't going to do it for my event, either).Synful
Well if they were going to email the entries to me obviously I would accept attachments. Worst case I have them post their pics to photobucket -send me all the links - and i snag the pics from it. Wouldnt really matter either way. I want to make it as easy on the contestants as I can, I really hate to admit it, and my current song contest has proven it - it is hard for some to follow simple directions (the clear minority yes, but there are some.... )
I want to make one of the prizes for a forum based vote from non entrants on their favorite submission. (That vote would have nothing to do with the actual judging process.) Why limit this to just those who aren't entering if its just for fun? You will get opinions from the entrants on other entries as well, so may as well allow it since it doesn't affect the judging, IMO.Synful
This one doesnt really matter either way.
On that same note, I am thinking about removing myself as one of the actual prize sorting judges. I would be the one to answer contestant questions on legality of non-food items, check over the pictures and synopsis to make sure everything looks legal, and of course, I would know the real identity of the contestants. The judges would submit their questions/ comments/ votes to me via PM and I would tally and whatnot. I suggest this, keep the entries anonymous from all the judges.Synful
My intent here is that I would NOT be one of the scoring judges because I would know who the contestants are. I would be posting the entries so the contestants remain anonymous to the judges. The judges wouldnt even know who the other judges were. I would be the only one to know who the contestants and jugdes are. The judges PM me with their scores, I tally them and post the results. After the judging, I will edit into each entry who the contestant is, and the judges scoresheets along with their identities. (NO, the workload I am setting myself up for doesnt scare me)
I do plan on making a sample submission to show an example of a legal and an illegal entry.
If I make the 16th at 5pm PST the deadline for email submission this gives me just over 24 hours to edit into the entries the ingredients lists and techniques info. Judging then on the 18th (24 hours) and tally on the 19th. This gives contestants 20 days to create, photo, and submit.
== Mentor Questions ==
Will I be able to run this on a multi-ocean platform? (Will need prize transfers if yes.)
- It's nice for forum events to have prizes on all oceans. First see if your flag or other friends have resources on other oceans. If you can supply some prizes on other oceans, the chances of OMs or others making up the difference is more likely. --Crystal 15:59, 13 February 2006 (PST)
What trinkets, if any, and how many will be made available to me for prizes?
Can I get the War Brig renamed to Food Fighter? (Im too poor to afford it)
I tried to rename the sloop from Arrogant Sprat to Sloppy Joe (Blarnybill is willing to donate the 2 shangs we thought this was going to take) - was told it is a 4 point name change. Not entirely sure why when Sleepy Joe is a legal fish name on fishbase.org - this would just be changing the adjective. Any help here????
- A fishname has to be an entire fishname for it to count as standard. So if Joe was there on its own, that would be fine, or if "Sloppy Joe" in its entirety was there, that would be fine. Otherwise, you have a custom rename. Try another food-related rename. Candycane is a fish, for example, as is Pineapplefish. --Crystal 15:59, 13 February 2006 (PST)
- Just beware that posting all images yourself is going to take a looong time, there's nothing wrong with having them post it themselves!
- You might want to consider requiring at least two pictures (two separate angles) just to be sure they're being honest about making it. If they can do one, it's not much more work to get two...
- I can certainly help move prizes to other oceans and provide a few trinkets, do any relate directly to food which would work? I can rename a ship or two you (to standard names!) if you're providing the ship as a prize.

Mentor Questions Part 2
Ocean swapping of prizes: OK, since you will be able to swap prizes on the oceans I will hereby limit my donation acceptance to poe if that will make the process easier on you. Are any on my list UNtransferable?
On the trinkets, I have no idea on any that are food related with the exception of fruit cake. Would flowers or some such be ok? If possible I would like one to be a Blue Ribbon to go to the person that wins the forum based vote.
Boat renames: Just have the War Brig to name, still thinking on a good one.
On the forum post, you were going to think about whether to allow people multiple entries or not. My advice is to stick to one entry per player, to encourage quality over quantity. If people are allowed multiple entries, you'll get someone who wants to provide you with 38 minutely-different moodily-lit models of Conglin island made from pulses. --Crystal 13:36, 21 February 2006 (PST)
There's the fruitcake, but that's more of a holiday thing... Just take a look at the available trinkets and pick a few which are nice but not over the top. For prizes, since this is a forum event it's going to be easiest to hand them out after it's been judged. We should agree on those prizes first, though, so give me a list of what you'd like and I'll make any comments and we'll worry about the actual prizes afterwards. Oh, to make things easier when distributing prizes, have the contestants list their preferred ocean with their entry, please!
- --Artemis 17:11, 21 February 2006 (PST)
ARGGG - I already have the prizes....
War Brig - Lucky Bass (Rename coming soon)
Sword - any sword, any colors - 50k price limit (no, you wont get the "extra" POE if there is any)
Cutter - Chilly Dogfish
Couples Portrait (with copy)
Choice of an appearance changing elixer
Sloop - Pork Chop
25k - Donations permitting this will be increased and possibly buy some other nifty prize.
Sloop - Bean Burrito
42 Dubs
42 Dubs
Trinkets! (Which ones yet to be determined.)
The boats are all in hand already, the rest is in poe to purchase the other prizes listed.
Aye, contestants are told to list their pirate name and the ocean on which they reside.
I checked out the trinkets - I have no clue what qualifies as "over the top" =/ If possible I would like the Fancy Ribbon blue back/white dot for the popular vote winner and maybe a flower or shell or two to toss in the prize pool - Im not really picky on which ones.
Ima go out on a limb here. Im thinking some of the entries for this event have the potential to be just as time consuming and difficult as those for Synfuls event. Is there any way I could prize out a familiar as well?
I'm not sure that Artemis is going to get here again before her trip to the UK, so I'll put in my response. If you've read the comments on Synful's event, you'll know that it was/is a very borderline decision on the familiar. For creative events, the timeframe for these events is quite short, and normally longer time for entry would be required for familiar events. That's a point against having a familiar prize, and counts for both contests. The argument for including a familiar in that case is that the absolute bare minimum effort to get an entry in is pretty substantial, so there could well be a very poor entry rate without a large prize. The short timescale still weighs in the other direction, which is why it's a borderline decision. With yours, it's much more accessible for entrants. People should be able to produce something within a fairly reasonable timeframe. I acknowledge that the most complex of your entries could require a similar effort to the animations, but the average effort should be much lower. Clearly I don't provide any definitive decision here, but that's my assessment. :) --Crystal 01:15, 22 February 2006 (PST)
Lordkalvan writes: I concur with Crystal on the chances of a familiar. Ye will get plenty of entries even with no familiar. --Tcarr 06:53, 22 February 2006 (PST)
Thanks both. As I was laying in bed last night unable to sleep, I decided I actually dont want one. Reasons arent really important, but for one, I decided I dont want the pressure just now of having any say in who may or may not win one.
Final Prize and Support Information
As of right now, this is the list of prizes and support I have listed for the OM's to provide for you, if anything is not correct or complete you need to get in touch with me as soon as possible, I will not around the whole weekend! Please give the OM's plenty of time to respond to any requests and speak to them in advance if at all possible, for some of you that will be more important than others. I've given a copy of the standard OM schedule to Jacquilynne as well if I'm not available.
- Prizes: Blue/white Fancy Ribbon, white shell, yellow rose. (see post-prize guidelines)
- Support: None
- Post-Prizes: For all prizes being handled after the event you'll need to have the following information: Pirate, Ocean, Prize and any relevent inscriptions. Submit in a Petition and an Oceanmaster should either take care of it if they have time or leave it for someone to handle when they do.
