"Real" greenies
I dont think you can prevent experienced players from creating greenie alts to join the event. However - although probably unlikely - you might - and I doubt it - get an OM to check each account to see if it comes from a comp of an experienced player. Shandra (Taco)
Hopefully, experienced players will not be willing to sit through 30 minutes of orientation about things they already know just to get a 3 month sub. OM's can tell if it is an Alt character on a subscibed account, I think. Of course, the person that wins has to divulge their user name in order to claim the subscription, so that is another way to find out. The other possible tell would be that an experienced player will do too well in the puzzling competition. But this is a problem which could easily arise in an event geared soley towards greenies. - JPC
I would sit through a 30 min just about anything to get 3 free months of the game. Something to keep in mind...I have 13 greenie accounts all with different user names. Its pretty easy to NOT do well in any of the puzzles if you want to appear to be a newbie. Just some food for thought. Shandra (Taco)
What about experienced players who are not subscribers? Eg, players on dubloons oceans, potentially having played for almost a year, who have never had a subscription. Are these in the target audience? They might potentially be interested in a subscription (assuming they wanted to switch oceans, who knows?). --Squirrelloid 'not interested in leaving Viridian'
The target audience is specifically greenies - ineperienced players. The point of the entire event is not really to give away subsriptions as much as it is to entice new players to learn the skills they will need to be assets to YPP in general and to potential crews, in partcular. I have to admit that I am a little shocked at the idea that someone would be willing to compromise their honesty for $19.95 (less than the price of a decent restaurant dinner). Maybe I should lower the prize to 1 month's subscription and see if $9.95 would be less of a temptation. (That's about the same as a Denny's breakfast) ....JPC

Attracting Target Audience
Not that this has anything to do with your event, but they have that Grand Slam at Denny's for only $3.99! (I keep hearing this on the commercials). On a more serious note, since your target audience is for new players, whom I would assume don't read forums, how would you attract your target audience to your event? Aye, then add the coffee and the tax and tip :P $9.95 before ye can blink !! The audience question is valid. I would like to have it announced on the Notice Board page for a couple of days in advance and then posted as a "Mission". OM broadcast as well to catch any who don't read the news when they sign on
How about using the greeter channel to grab greenies? (Unless I'm forgetting something, which I most likely am.) I only suggest it 'cause unless I'm mistaken (which I could be very easily) it would only hit up the actual greenies. --Shikyo 18:48, 7 February 2006 (PST)

Your idea to lower the prize to one month sub should help cut down on dishonest experienced players trying to get in on it. If you still wish to invest the same ammount toward prize, you could simply do 2 prizes of 1 month, or if you're willing, 3 prizes of 1 month. That also ensures that should 1 dishonest experienced player weedle their way in for a prize, hopefully the other 1 or 2 winners will be legitimate new players.
It's a tough call. I've long wished to do events for Greenies only, and not been able to come up with any idea to enforce it. Good luck! I'll be interested in hearing how it went when you complete this.--Muroni 05:36, 9 February 2006 (PST)
Good idea - Perhaps one month for the top puzzler in each - sailing, bilge & carp. Or the top 3 puzzlers overall to be sure that one person does not end up with more than one prize. Making more prizes might also make it more attractive to potential contestants. Jpcarol 08:26, 9 February 2006 (PST)
This is my first time ever doing something like this, sorry I'm a year late. As stated greenies don't take the time to go to the forums i.e., (like myself). I think all ideas are great. However, maybe you can attract the new greenies by implementing this special event on the intial sign up page; once they create an account they would automatically be whisked away to the University. In addition, to attract the greenies at dockside, a OM broadcast would be a great idea. I just recently host a greenie pilly with another greeter on Cobalt.
