Talk:Event E2/Proposal Gloraelin

From YPPedia

Wiki?

I'm curious what value you feel the wiki adds, versus holding this event on the forums? Jacquilynne / Jasandrea

You know, that is a good point. I was thinking that it might be easier to show rounds, since I have absolutely no idea how to make that show up in a forum post. I'll think about that some more and do some research on table stuff.--Gloraelin 15:25, 12 January 2006 (PST)

Upon further thought, and realizing that people could, uh... edit the entries page that I was thinking of having, I figured it was best to hold it on the forums. It's gonna be a little more work to get them to the emails for the judges, but the extra security will be worth it. Oh, and to all the people asking, no, I've never played Monkey Island. --Gloraelin 21:39, 15 January 2006 (PST)

For shame! Go get it and play it this instant. In all seriousness, even if this is not one of the E2 compeditors, I would love to see this event hosted eventually. -Hempline
Seconded on both the Monkey Island series being worth a play, and this event being awesome...though I think I told you that already. And hey, I operate on Sage. When you make onto the shortlist (as I'm sure you will!) or decide to run it anyway, shoot me a tell and I'll see if I can help ya with financial backers on the green oceans. --Shikyo

Input

I've gotten all the bugs that I can see worked out, I think, but I'd like any input people have. I'd like to eventually run this, obviously, so I want it to be happy-shiny-perfect. Thanks! --Gloraelin 21:49, 18 January 2006 (PST)

Nitpick time.

Okay, I know how not getting imput sucks, so let's see....

Alright, here's something rather nitpicky. For judges, you say you're looking for "respected players in the game who have shown themselves to be well-spoken and creative." What's your criteria, if any, beyond that? Past prize winners or people who have organized contests of their own? People who contribute to that Writer's Workshop thingy? (In short, how are you defining 'respected,' 'well-spoken,' and 'creative.')

Assuming you have people in mind, have you approached any about possibly judging in this contest? (And, heck, what if you don't manage to get enough people from your shortlist?) For that matter, are your possible judges drawn from a base which covers all of the production oceans? I mean, it'll personally be a turn-off if it turns out that four out of five judges all hail from Midnight or something.

And for that matter, what if you end up getting an unfair poetry bias in your judges? Normally I wouldn't ask something that inane, but...it does seem like the PP forums have a huge thing for poetry. It's possible.

...yeah, it's really nitpicky. Tch. 'pologies. Maybe you'll find something useful in the incoherant mass of questions here? (Back to cheering my crew on in the bake-off!) -Shikyo

Yay for input! I have a list (sorta...) in the works for judges, yes. As for criterion, some I hope to draw from people who entered Eris' contest, some who have won writing contests, yes, and others to balance it out. I hadn't actually thought about other ocean judges, so I'll have to work on that.
I have some volunteers already, and if I can get a large enough base, I can draw the "best" ones for the contest itself. As to poetry ... I hope that won't be a problem. I mean, sure someone can be best at a certain type of writing, but is able to put all that aside.

Word Limit?

Do you have a word limit for these insults, or is it going to depend on the topic at hand? I'm just asking because a short insult is rather different from a longer one, and I could see different topics requiring different word lengths. That might prove an added level of skill and/or confusion as the tournament continues. Maybe word limit isn't an issue, but I see the potential for participants to write long insults without clarification. Perhaps that isn't a bad thing, but "insult" is usually more quick and short than it is long and slow. --Lizperk23 06:37, 23 January 2006 (PST)

It'll depend on the subject matter, aye. For some of the topics, it'll be limited to a certain number of words, or sentances, and so on. There will only be a couple with free reign granted - probably one being the final. --Gloraelin 11:58, 23 January 2006 (PST)
