Talk:Carp scoring

The effect of a wasteful (loss of a piece)

I've only had Wasteful once or twice. Replacing the removed piece and completing the hole perfectly afterward results in a Craftsmanship, just as though one piece too many was used. Grain bonus seems to still apply.

The effect of a hole expanding

The game docs say an unattended hole will expand by one square (1/5th of one piece), making a Masterpiece impossible. This should allow for Craftsmanship at minimum, but I've not observed if more than one extra square makes a Craftsmanship impossible. It would depend on where the extra squares appear.

Ok, and what effect do these have on the score (the point count that determines the yellow-ness of your indicator)? --Behindcurtai 18:55, 16 September 2006 (PDT)
From what I've seen on the Wasteful... it only eliminates the ability to get a Masterpiece, and has no direct affect on scoring. The indicator didn't change noticably just because a piece flew off. --Dobdobbodpa

Effects of wasteful/hole expansion

From my experience, doing these actions either accidentally or on purpose, DOES seem to reduce the scoring if one is not careful to not take too long in completing a hole. Gunnerfreak on Cerulean 15:07, 11 November 2016 (UTC)

I assume they meant that they aren't sure just how badly it affects your score. I can't imagine anyone suggesting that it doesn't hurt your score at all. (Okay, I can imagine it, but I try to give people the benefit of a doubt. ;) --Budclare2 01:09, 12 November 2016 (UTC)
