New Trinkets
So, I know Atte's been away from the game for a bit. I was just wondering if anyone was planning on tackling making up the templates for the new trinkets that were just added with the last release or if I could take a stab at it. From conversations with people and reading a few old threads, I gather it's a basic spot substitution system where you simply take a base trinket (i.e. red/red or blue/blue) and do some mixing and matching with the different parts to create the full color template.
Also, was the information regarding petition an OM to get the temporary base trinkets for screenshots accurate? I don't want to go bugging one on duty if that's not how you're supposed to acquire them now. --Muffynz 23:47, 22 March 2007 (PDT)
- It's been a while, so I'm a bit rusty at it, but I can basically give you step-by-step instructions for doing it with the GIMP and a handful of starter images. GIMP has a 'grain removal' filter mode that's fantastic for this sort of work. Drop a note on my talk page, which I still occasionally monitor, and I'll try to get you set up. --AtteSmythe 14:16, 5 April 2007 (PDT)
- I've started to do some of them in Photoshop. I'll upload as I get 'em done. Working on the more plain two color medals (not the ones with the itty bitty gems in them yet. Feel free to grab what I upload and rename/crop/whatever according to Atte's directions. --Guppymomma 18:49, 5 April 2007 (PDT)
- Alrighty, anyway I can help I will. --Muffynz 20:10, 5 April 2007 (PDT)
- Slowly, painfully... heh. Send a pm to lorkiria with your e-mail address and I can give you some psd files that have some layers that might be useful. At least it's what I've been using with copious screenshotting and then pasting with some careful erasing. I've got the ribbon part of the "pins" in a psd so you just have to copy & paste in the little metal parts. I did manage to do the two cookies after looking at the fruitcake template, so two done five billion left to go. --Guppymomma 20:20, 5 April 2007 (PDT)
- Also looking at My trinkets, I'm going to suggest that instead of installing tertiary color like on the pets template (unless it's really easy, I haven't checked that one) we just name the ones that have different metal color things like Gold plain pin, Silver plain pin, etc. Or something similar. --Guppymomma 20:23, 5 April 2007 (PDT)
- Using tertiary colors would be no problem in the named parameters case, the new parameter name just needed to be passed along. In the unnamed parameter case a two color trinket could be distinguished from a three color one by checking wether {{5}} is set. I'd propose the coding of the trinkets to look like this:
{{My trinkets|Plain medal|red|gold|Text}}
{{My trinkets|Plain pin|red|white|gold|Text}}
Just omiting the text in the three color case wouldn't work (empty parameter is fine though) and giving an extra 5th argument in the two color case would display the extra paramater as the text.
I guess I will throw together a test case for the plain pin in this fashion in the next few days.--Alfwyn 11:51, 28 February 2008 (PST) - Actually it was easier than I thought and there were already color charts for the plain pin uploaded. The testcase is now ready at User:Alfwyn/Sandbox --Alfwyn 13:28, 28 February 2008 (PST)
