"Elite" is a term often used to describe a highly skilled pirate of some sort.

Typically people only use the term "Elite" when running a certain kind of pillage, called an "Elite pillage". These pillages are restricted to "Elite" pirates. The requirements for the pillage often vary by Battle Navigator, but an "Elite" pirate can most accurately be described as a player character with at least one Piracy rating of Renowned or higher, and no Piracy ratings below Distinguished.It is also generally thought that for a pirate to claim themselves as "Elite" that they must also be somewhat well known within their given ocean.
