Thanks, I hadn't thought of that when I set up a redirect. I would like to continue using the name Kara_Jean but my computer seems to be having problems with it. I recently moved and had to switch internet services, so there's a lot of little things I have had to change and fix with my internet use lately. I will start using Kara_Jean again as soon as I figure out what my computer is doing in this instance. --Kara jean 23:10, 26 July 2008 (UTC)

:Edit: I just read the previous post on this page, and the user, User:HeadofTGOTE, seems to be having the same problem that I am having. I try to log in as Kara_Jean, but the capital "J" automatically switches to "j". My first reaction is to blame my computer, which I have no problem doing, but if this is YPPedia-induced please let me know if you have a cure. Thanks again. --Kara jean 23:21, 26 July 2008 (UTC)

! Template

Sorry, the foo approach doesn't really work if used as a template parameter since that is an autolink too. It renders with additional brackets visible around the link. --Alfwyn 09:56, 9 March 2008 (PDT)

I guess I used an unlucky formulated disclaimer at the helpdesk. What I wanted to express was that while I'm confident that it works and is a good idea to use, I would rather like to see it used on some pages first before using it in other templates or changing a lot of pages to use it. --Alfwyn 12:07, 9 March 2008 (PDT)

Opps, have'nt used MediaWiki formatting in some time, so I was saving it without a preveiw. Thanks fer the message. And one question: how can show more than one pet on a Pirate Article page?

Amoyer wanted to thank you for helping me with my, priate page. --Deneochris 11:01, 19 March 2008 (PDT)

Harr! Thanks for the help! --Sharktailz 02:45, 26 March 2008 (PDT)

On my pirate page, [[Iameric], i had a list of two ships that were renamed using one shanghai and you took the list off of my page. I'm just wondering if it had something to do with the fact that they were only renamed using one shanghai instead of two but i'd just like to know the reason for the edit. If you want proof do a /vw on the Sick Spot and Prickly Pufferfish (this ship is no longer in my possesion)

My pirate article

DonkykongsHey i was wondering soemthing sicne idotn ahve my own gallery and portrait could imake a picture or image on the program "Paint" then save it with the right name then upload it as my pirates image or portrait? If i can could you tell me what i should name the picture and what image tag. Because itried it but it says extension error.

Second portrait page deleted

Could u please explain why u did that? Pirate is Owlwhisperer. Thank you.

I understood why you deleted the portrait, BUT that page contained another image, and i was going to post some text too. What this full deletion has done is discourage me from being creative and contributing. Which is sad. And also, i wrote to the hosting site for my avatar, they have not answered yet as to whether it is copyright violation. They have instructions on their site how to use the avatar in yahoo signature (here), this is why i assumed i am allowed to post the image as long as i provide the link to their site. (I'm sorry for this multiple editing, not all ideas came at the same time.)--Saintdiana 00:43, 16 April 2008 (PDT)

dispusted tag

I'm not quite sure if this page should have this tag disputed (Usage) Or possibly this one:

Opinion.gif The values used in this article are for the purposes of demonstrating relative values only.
The actual mechanical values behind the puzzle are undetermined as of this time.

Or none? Just thought I'd ask someone who knows better. --Inschato 19:25, 17 April 2008 (PDT)

Flag id required

 • I just created a page located Castaway Cove. I was not sure where I would find a flag id, could you please add the flag id of Castaway Cove to the page. Thanks! Jodiee5 00:25, 23 April 2008 (PDT)
 • Awesome! Thanks for the tip, it'll really make things easier for me.  :) Jodiee5 01:38, 23 April 2008 (PDT)

Malachite

Ahoy, just wondering where all the lovely info regarding Malachite Ocean is coming from. Just wondered if I would be able to get a head start on getting the shoppe pages sorted out. --Fearlessphil 14:24, 5 May 2008 (PDT)

Start here and be a creative explorer. -- Cedarwings (talk) 14:25, 5 May 2008 (PDT)
Probably not worth starting the shoppe pages until we can gain access to the ocean. -- Cedarwings (talk) 14:29, 5 May 2008 (PDT)
Thanks. I just started trying to do a shoppe page, then relised how little information could actually be put on. I'll go back to doing the Sage ones then. --Fearlessphil 14:37, 5 May 2008 (PDT)

Regarding the inscription on Viper's Drop, I wrote it as LonelyDucky as that is how it appears on the inscription itself. Should we make it a piped link instead? --Belthazar451 05:31, 8 May 2008 (PDT)

Interlinks should be used when linking to wikipedia? Re: your recent edits =P -- Burninat0r 00:00, 12 May 2008 (PDT)

Yup! They are a little prettier then an external link. -- Cedarwings (talk) 00:24, 12 May 2008 (PDT)
They're prettier, but isn't wikipedia external? /e is mildly confused. --Burninat0r 11:47, 12 May 2008 (PDT)

Island IDs

I'm vaguely curious as to the point of adding the island IDs to the island infoboxes for Malachite, considering that most of them simply send you to a "can't find this colonised island!" page. If you are planning to continue with it, you may want to hold off on doing anything past Draco - I think we may shortly find another island to the east of Spizzwink, and I'm not sure how many more (if any) there will be past that. --Belthazar451 05:57, 14 May 2008 (PDT)

I've mentioned this once before, but I can't seem to remember which page it was on so here it goes again. We know that Barracuda has an islandid=44. Islandid's are given based on an alphabetical list of archipelagos and the islands contained in each one. Since we know what Barracuda, Chelydra, Chysalis, and Salstraum are it is safe to add islandid's to the islands prior to those on the ocean list. The only archipelagos that could have more islands in them are Lacerta and Whiptail. -- Cedarwings (talk) 06:05, 14 May 2008 (PDT)
That's not entirely true. Changes can be made to island names without affecting the underlying island ID numbers. --Fiddler 06:13, 14 May 2008 (PDT)
Aye, there is a precedent for island IDs being out of order - cf Basset Island and Admiral Island. That said, part of my point was why we need to add all the island ids. The uninhabited islands on the other arches don't have it listed. --Belthazar451 06:49, 14 May 2008 (PDT)
There also appears to be a precedent of omitting island IDs from uncolonized islands. Looking around Sage and Hunter articles, the only infoboxes with IDs are the colonized ones. --Chupchup 13:42, 14 May 2008 (PDT)
Fine. While I agree and disagree with some of the comments, I have removed them anyway. As for the islandid's being in order, it goes both ways. Cobalt, Viridian and Hunter are all in order. And so far it would appear that Malachite is too. We'll see as time goes on. As for Belthazar's comments about another island in Draco, I disagree, but that is just my opinion. -- Cedarwings (talk) 15:10, 14 May 2008 (PDT)
Sorry, I didn't mean for you to have to go through all that work over again. And yes, my theory about another island in Draco is quite possibly completely and utterly wrong. =) --Belthazar451 18:49, 14 May 2008 (PDT)

Flotilla pages

I hate to interrupt in the middle of your work, but I'm not sure I see how updating User:Amoyer/Templates/Cobalt Ocean flotillas would then feed into the individual brigand king pages. --Fiddler 09:49, 16 May 2008 (PDT)

I know, I realized that part way through and I'm trying to work it out. -- Cedarwings (talk) 09:54, 16 May 2008 (PDT)
Hang on a few minutes, I've got an idea. Let me mock something up real fast.--Fiddler 09:58, 16 May 2008 (PDT)

Take a look at this - User:Fiddler/Sandbox 3. Top section is the separate page, bottom is how to include it in the articles. We'll end up with 42 subpages, each of which can be edited independently. Someone updating can click through the Cobalt flotillas page and hit edit, but someone looking at the brigand king article would just see the information. The template will need to be revised to to simply show the one ocean at a time so it can be easily tabled for the king's article. --Fiddler 10:06, 16 May 2008 (PDT)

What I was trying to do was minimize the number of edits required to update an oceans' flotillas. You mock up certainly makes it easier to locate all of the pages to update, but it still requires the same number of edits in the end. -- Cedarwings (talk) 10:09, 16 May 2008 (PDT)
Although, I'm not sure what I was thinking is even possible. -- Cedarwings (talk) 10:15, 16 May 2008 (PDT)
Right, but I think it's the only way to provide the information on both pages. You can only transclude complete pages, not parts (excepting noinclude, but that only works once per page) and you can't have one template access the variables set in another template.--Fiddler 10:18, 16 May 2008 (PDT)
I got to the point where I realized I couldn't access the variables set in another template that really stopped me. I'll take bits and pieces from everywhere and make a clean mock up. -- Cedarwings (talk) 10:22, 16 May 2008 (PDT)
Might I suggest putting the Edit Flotilla link inside the flotilla box itself? I edited your Cobalt Ocean Flotillas template to demonstrate. It looks a bit prettier (though at present doesn't have the right URL - not sure how to fix it). --Belthazar451 23:22, 16 May 2008 (PDT)

Ultimate List Template

I created a new template for diplaying the ultimate list on puzzle pages. The template can be found at Template:Ultlist. The format for the template is simply x, where x is the ID number for the puzzle in question - for example, SF is 0, drinking is 1, bilging is 2, et cetera. This is to simplify updates to the ultimate list table. For example if a new ocean is added (as has happened) then rather than update all eighteen puzzle pages, we just need to update the one template.

Unfortunately, in creating it, my reach exceeded my grasp a little. I'd wanted to make it more user-friendly - rather than entering the puzzle ID, I wanted the user to be able to enter the puzzle name, as in Drinking. To that end, I created a lookup template named Template:Puzzletype and associated yes/no templates. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be passing values correctly, and I can't for the life of me work out what's wrong. Since the ultlist template wouldn't be used by general users very often, I probably didn't need the more user-friendly format after all, and so they can probably be deleted.

In any case, I've installed my new template on the Carousing puzzle pages so you (and others) can see how it looks before I go the whole hog and put it on all the puzzle pages. --Belthazar451 22:12, 24 May 2008 (PDT)

Bleh, worked out the problem - you'd think I would have thought of case sensitivity FIRST. The question now is whether it's still worth implementing. Especially since it'd require eighteen pairs of yes/no templates. --Belthazar451 17:06, 25 May 2008 (PDT)
It's probably not worth it. If there was another application for this, then maybe. But I'm not sure it is worth the effort. I was trying to work it out, but without the functionality of the "if" function, it ends up requiring a lot more work then I was willing to put into it. The addition of the Ultlist (Usage) helps, especially for future additions and changes. One thing that might be useful is to put an usage section on that template that has a list of what each ult list's number is (ie. 25=TD, etc.). -- Cedarwings (talk) 21:07, 25 May 2008 (PDT)
Aye, I was going to add the usage section once we decided to implement the template fully. Given your okay, I think I'll go and add the template to the other puzzle pages now. It's simple enough later if we want to change back just by adding a subst in the template call. Since we're not going to use the puzzletype template I tentatively created, it and the assorted sub-templates probably need deleting - sorry for adding the extra work. --Belthazar451 22:14, 25 May 2008 (PDT)

Messages

I know, I was going to do that but i was in the middle of a few issues that need to be attended. Cause i'm helping my self and tring to expand the Ypp. But thanks for doing it for me.

Page Move

Ahoy! Could ye move A New Beggining to A New Beginning? I'd do it myself, only the wiki software won't let me, since there's already a different redirect page in the destination. --Belthazar451 10:26, 5 June 2008 (PDT)

All done. Maybe a note regarding the defunct crew should be added to the existing page. -- Cedarwings (talk) 10:29, 5 June 2008 (PDT)
Aye, there's a thought. --Belthazar451 10:32, 5 June 2008 (PDT)

Listed Trophies

Ahoy mate, I was looking at Excal and noticed he had trophies listed on his pirate page. Even though they are contained in a show/hide box, is this still permissable or is it still against policy even hidden since a direct link to trophies still exists in the pirates infobox? -- Haywoodx(t/c) 11:32, 14 June 2008 (PDT)

Ships

Why can you not have your ships on your page?

There is a policy that exists that states that you cannot. -- Cedarwings (talk) 18:54, 16 June 2008 (PDT)
Then why do other people have them on thier pages?
Discussion of ships, if incorporated into a factual encyclopedic reference to some event, or special occasion in that pirates career is fine. Renamed vessels are special because the pirate took time to construct something unique or personal in naming of the vessel, thus making it noteworthy in pirate pages. What is against policy is the bullitt style listing of common, non-renamed vessels. I hope this helps. -- Haywoodx(t/c) 22:26, 16 June 2008 (PDT)

Furniture Names

In the game, those items are named with capitals. [1] [2]. Also other items such as Image:Furniture-Skeleton_in_Shackles.png are capitalised, same as they are in game. Don't quite get the need to reupload :-/ --Sagacious (talk) 19:04, 17 June 2008 (PDT)

I just realized that as soon as I logged onto Ice. Brain fart, I thought all the furniture items only had the first name capitalized. I'll put it back in a minute. -- Cedarwings (talk) 19:11, 17 June 2008 (PDT)
Ok, I just remember trying to get the caps right and was confused by the changes :-) --Sagacious (talk) 19:22, 17 June 2008 (PDT)
Nope, you were right. I obviously checked my brain at the door when I logged in today. -- Cedarwings (talk) 19:23, 17 June 2008 (PDT)
A lot of items have all words capitalised in-game but only have an initial capital in the wiki. All of the multi-word trinket names, for example. I though the YPPedia policy was to have leading capital only, regardless of how they were done in-game. --Belthazar451 19:41, 17 June 2008 (PDT)

Apart from some of the newer items, the naming convention on the wiki has mirrored that of in-game. I also noticed another minor nitpick with caps on the Carven items. If you could clearup the old images that would be splendid! --Sagacious (talk) 19:57, 17 June 2008 (PDT)

Atlantean trinket templates

I'm wondering whether it's worth revamping the My Trinket templates for the Atlantean trinkets. They're currently set up to use the standard-colour templates, meaning the images showing the available colours turn out quite ugly. For example, Image:Colors_inscribed_shell.png. I'm not sure where to discuss this, considering how many pages we're talking about changing, but you seem to be online right now, so here is as good as anywhere. =)

I propose that we change the images for the Atlantean trinkets so that they have atlantean, aqua, blue, navy and lime in that order (lime is last to account for the fact that only an Archelon egg has been found in lime so far) and none of the colours that no Atlantean trinket has been found in. I'm happy to do the work on this myself, but I'm checking with you to make sure it's a good idea before I get stuck into things. --Belthazar451 00:11, 19 June 2008 (PDT)

Shortly after the Atlantean trinkets appeared, back in February '08, the admins had a discussion about what to do with the images and it was decided at that time to just add the Atlantean color to the images as this would only require the addition of one more template variable measurement as opposed to, as Guppymomma said, "That will make for the least insanity in the way of a zillion template articles for the variable measurements."
So as a result, it was determined to go with the red X for the trinkets that don't currently exist. -- Cedarwings (talk) 00:33, 19 June 2008 (PDT)
I agree that the red X simplifies things so far as wading through endless templates goes, but on the other hand, it's kinda ugly. =) --Belthazar451 00:45, 19 June 2008 (PDT)
I'm not disagreeing with you. But "Trinket not currently available in this color." wouldn't really fit in a 36x38 inventory box. Got another suggestion? -- Cedarwings (talk) 00:47, 19 June 2008 (PDT)
Eh, I suppose it doesn't really matter - I've used a table and the colorize trinket template to approximate a cut-down image for the atlantean trinket pages, and that works perfectly well, albeit by making the page code a little clunky when compared to the other trinket pages. --Belthazar451 00:51, 19 June 2008 (PDT)

Change in width limitations.

It appears that the width limitations are affecting some of the GCPP pages when the Prototype Template is used.-- Haywoodx(t/c) 20:33, 20 June 2008 (PDT)

I think the solution here is to reorder the GCPP template to put the protoype template call first. Specifically, move the line {{GCPP:Proposal Summary/prototype {no} | link = {prototype link} }} to just under the <includeonly>. Though some testing might need to be done to see how good that actually looks... --Belthazar451 21:11, 20 June 2008 (PDT)
I assuming the issue you are talking about is the blank space beside the contact info. I don't believe moving the suggested code up to the top is going to fix the problem as the prototype box will not fit beside the contact info box anyway.
I can't remember how the pages looked specifically before the width limitations were put in place, so for all I know there was always space beside the contact box. Changing both the prototype box and the game gardens box (have a look at GCPP:Proposal-Halibut to tables and the contact info to a <div> box should allow for everything to fit side by side. Unless someone else has another solution. -- Cedarwings (talk) 00:15, 21 June 2008 (PDT)
My thought was to move the prototype box to above the contact box, allowing the page text to fill that blank space. --Belthazar451 05:00, 21 June 2008 (PDT)
How's this look? -- Cedarwings (talk) 07:32, 21 June 2008 (PDT)
Looks good, though it might looks better if they were the same width.
While we're talking about widths of things, though, I've noticed that the flag and crew infoboxes get wider when there's a portrait. This is because the portrait widths are set to 280 pixels, which is the same width as the infobox sans portrait. Thus the 280-pixel portrait plus the infobox margins ends up making the infobox wider. It looks a bit funny on pages with multiple infoboxes, only one of which has a portrait. --Belthazar451 07:42, 21 June 2008 (PDT)
I've adjusted the width on both boxes to be the same. Looks better. I'll probably implement the changes either tonight or tomorrow, unless someone can see a problem that needs to be addressed first.
As for the portraits in the flag and crew infoboxes, I think I noticed that before on the BK crew and flag pages. I won't have a chance to figure out what the correct portrait width should be until either later tonight or tomorrow. -- Cedarwings (talk) 11:36, 21 June 2008 (PDT)
Changes for GCPP have been implemented. -- Cedarwings (talk) 23:09, 21 June 2008 (PDT)
It appears that articles that have no infobox table arent an issue with the width in IE7. Articles that have ample information that extend below the infobox table aren't an issue the the width in IE7. Articles that are merely just blurbs and their text does NOT extend below the infobox table seem to cause the width issue in IE7. I tested this by adding text to articles and indeed, it corrected the problem. Although this isnt a fix to most pirate, crew, flag articles taht are only blurbs with pictured infoboxes, it might give insight to those that can adjuxt the tables in the infobox template.-- Haywoodx(t/c) 08:28, 22 June 2008 (PDT)
Did you test whether it was caused by the clear template? The stub tags also include clear templates, and they're usually used on pages which have text shorter than the infobox. Though on a side note, I'm not sure if wholesale editing of random user pages is the best way to test this problem. Copy the page into your user space, or make some sort of mockup - that way you can test it to your heart's content. --Belthazar451 16:00, 22 June 2008 (PDT)
I did test absenses of both the clear and the stub templates to no avail. You are right, I should have sandboxed something for testing instead of just bumblng around random pages. I'm confident that its the length of text, or lack thereof thats causing the problems in IE7.-- Haywoodx(t/c) 16:15, 22 June 2008 (PDT)
All of this might be a moot (edited) point if we are upgrading our MediaWiki this week. I know that the forum width adjustment was the first step in the process. In future versions of MediaWiki it would allow us to upgrade our monobook template to one that supported IE7 properly, even though a lot of fixes have been made in our version, aside from these new ones that have just appeared. The web developers will be back to work tomorrow and can hopefully help look into the problems. Maybe we'll also be able to get an update on when the MediaWiki is do for its upgrade.-- Cedarwings (talk) 16:53, 22 June 2008 (PDT)
I've found another fun width issue. On Chthonic Horde (and presumably the other BK flag articles), the infobox column overlaps the blockade table. On a side note, I had to be nitpicky, but the phrase you're after is "moot point", and the situation you describe is actually not a moot point - check the dictionary. And yes, I used to make that exact same mistake. =) --Belthazar451 21:22, 22 June 2008 (PDT)
Okay, my mistake. Whatever, you got the point nonetheless. With the upgrade all the issues with IE7 may go away. As for the blockade table, I'll add it to the list and it can be discussed separate from this. Piling these issues into the same thread could get them lost. -- Cedarwings (talk) 22:05, 22 June 2008 (PDT)

Firefox extension

If you have Firefox w/Stylish extension, or Opera, you can zap the width restriction away with the custom stylesheet I've posted. --Chupchup 22:29, 21 June 2008 (PDT)

Yes, but the idea is to get it looking pretty for anyone, regardless of browser or extensions. We need to cater for the lowest common denominator - IE. --Belthazar451 23:38, 21 June 2008 (PDT)
Unfortunately IE tends to be a problem that regardless of the choices that Firefox users have made to get away from it, it must still be supported by all web developers. Specifically it is IE7 that seems to have the most problems. I cannot recommend anyone to install this extension as I would rather see any problems created by the width restrictions solved here for all users then to see a "fix" for a few of the users that care to implement this extension. -- Cedarwings (talk) 23:53, 21 June 2008 (PDT)

Familiar Templates

Is there much call for a Colorize familiar template on the style of Template:Colorize pet or Template:Colorize trinket, or does Template:Familiar box do the job well enough? --Belthazar451 03:05, 23 June 2008 (PDT)

tGoTE

Thanks for all your help. I wasn't sure about how to use the banner on many pages without making a template and without having to keep doing it for every single page. I wasn't very sure about a category either... So, thanks. --HeadofTGOTE 02:29, 26 June 2008 (PDT)

Your revert in the Malachite familiars page

I looked at that and was confused, because there's a separate page for tan familiar awarded on Malachite and User:Sharktailz had put on that page the record of winning a TAN familiar(and I looked at the forums for that event and it also said a TAN familiar). Maybe User:Geneboo wanted it to be in the tan familiars awarded on Malachite record page. I got confused when I saw that revert, maybe I'm wrong, but just in case could you look into that please? Thanks.--Knowledge13 00:02, 30 June 2008 (PDT)

Hmm... I guess you are correct. It was a tan familiar that was won and so it shouldn't be on the Malachite familiars page. As for the page just for tan familiars, that page is reserved for tan familiars that are won in the weekly familiar tournaments. I'll remove the tan familiar from the Malachite familiars page. Thanks for catching that. -- Cedarwings (talk) 00:08, 30 June 2008 (PDT)

User:HeadofTGOTE

Something happened, now when I try to log on as User:HeadofTGOTE I am instead logged on as User:Headoftgote. The Yppedia seems to be eliminating all the capitals in my user-name except for the first letter. What can I do? --Headoftgote 13:41, 7 July 2008 (UTC)

User talk:Kara jean

Thanks, I hadn't thought of that when I set up a redirect. I would like to continue using the name Kara_Jean but my computer seems to be having problems with it. I recently moved and had to switch internet services, so there's a lot of little things I have had to change and fix with my internet use lately. I will start using Kara_Jean again as soon as I figure out what my computer is doing in this instance. --Kara jean 23:10, 26 July 2008 (UTC)

Edit: I just read the previous post on this page, and the user, User:HeadofTGOTE, seems to be having the same problem that I am having. I try to log in as Kara_Jean, but the capital "J" automatically switches to "j". My first reaction is to blame my computer, which I have no problem doing, but if this is YPPedia-induced please let me know if you have a cure. Could I please have the page User:Kara_jean deleted since this has been a misunderstanding and since I enjoy editing under the name with a capital "J"? Thanks again. --Kara jean 23:21, 26 July 2008 (UTC)
