Use

Perhaps it would be good to discuss guidelines for a gadjillion. I'm not entirely convinced that we should get jumpy about new wiki editors because even a gentle admonition can often scare people away. It's really not that hard to hit 500 recent changes and do a quick breeze through ignoring the multiple edits in a row. Perhaps pointing them to a tutorial page that outlines good editing techniques including preview/summary (with screenshots of course) could be more useful, along with PTG's Flash tutorial in the works. --Guppymomma 08:49, 21 June 2006 (PDT)

20 or more within the span of an hour? I'll have that tutorial ready soon after I get the voice from Madam, shouldn't be more than a week or so after I've got it. --Ponytailguy 09:01, 21 June 2006 (PDT)
Maybe today's just a really bad day, but by my estimation, there've been three seperate wiki-greenies who've eached logged upwards of 20, 30, even 40 edits in a very short timespan. It can be super-gentle if need be, but we need to have something for this: It takes too long to go through all those edits, and I can't just gloss over consecutive ones because other people edit in the meantime.
Anyway, how about a link to Help:Contents? Of course, that page itself could stand to link more directly to some of the other help pages... --Emufarmers 16:03, 21 June 2006 (PDT)

After noticing Yaten reverting an edit similar to one of my last ones here, I redid the URL bit to follow a similar format that Template:Edit uses. It seemed to work fine for pages with spaces (I checked with Scuppering Seven Seas). --Thunderbird 20:27, 21 June 2006 (PDT)

Bringing this topic up again as this template's being used more often. I think there should be some sort of guideline for how many edits in an hour is considered to be too many edits without preview in the usage notes or something. I don't think we reached consensus up above. --Guppymomma 15:12, 13 September 2006 (PDT)

We've been having people who do single digit's worth of edits to a page getting this warning. I'm going to just edit the usage notes to say it better be double digits at the very least because that's just ludicrous. --Guppymomma 12:01, 26 June 2007 (PDT)

Deletion

I oppose deletion. To be blunt, the template this is being "replaced" with strikes me as being a bit clinical. Even if this is only kept around for my own purposes, I'd like it to remain in place, because I'll likely stick with this text, whether it's behind {{}} or not. --Ponytailguy 18:12, 29 July 2006 (PDT)

I moved the alternate to User:AtteSmythe/templates/Edit frequency and struck the pdb. --AtteSmythe 14:13, 31 July 2006 (PDT)

Revision?

In light of several recent user-blockings due to spamming up the recent changes, I thought a slight revision to this template may be in order, alerting users to the annoyance they cause the first time. My idea can be seen here. Please comment! -- Thefirstdude (t/c) 09:39, 8 June 2007 (PDT)

I like it. It gives a link to the real reason why we are seeing all there edits. --Kgarrett1969 09:41, 8 June 2007 (PDT)
I actually like the original frequency template but think that maybe a second frequency warning is in order that could include a block warning in it if their editing behaviour doesn't change. I don't think that the comments about the Recent changes page are necessary. I think the page history is enough to alert the user to the annoyance it causes. -- Cedarwings (t/c) 13:10, 8 June 2007 (PDT)
I'm not sure what connection you see that I don't between a single page's history and the Recent changes list. -- Thefirstdude (t/c) 15:29, 8 June 2007 (PDT)
My problem is that I think your version is too long. Warning messages need to be short and to the point. If you think it needs a rewrite, then look at doing so without adding to the length. -- Cedarwings (t/c) 17:45, 8 June 2007 (PDT)
I think the template was too long to begin with. If you know of a way of adding information to something without making it longer, however, I would love to know more. -- Thefirstdude (t/c) 21:37, 8 June 2007 (PDT)
Rewrite existing content to make it shorter, perhaps? --Ponytailguy 21:42, 8 June 2007 (PDT)
Yea-aahh... since I assume we don't want to turn it into a Start using the preview button or you will be blocked from editing the YPPedia. thing and retain this template as more of providing information as to why not to save after every single change and to use the preview button between small edits instead... there really isn't much that can be rewritten in a less verbose manner. -- Thefirstdude (t/c) 21:55, 8 June 2007 (PDT)
Hmm... I took a shot at it. Now it contains all the information in a shorter package, but it definitely has a definite element of curtness that is rather undesirable for this template. -- Thefirstdude (t/c) 22:05, 8 June 2007 (PDT)
