Housing Deeds & Swords

Are we sure that housing deeds are not implemented? All those shacks must have deeds, and I'm sure some governor would be willing to tell us if they had a house deed option available.

Also, I've been thinking that it would be neat to include images of how all the swords look inside the portraits. Some of the mid-rnage weapons, like falchion, saber, and short sword are rarely seen amongst the plethora of scimitars, skull daggers, and cleavers. To avoid clutter on the main page, I suppose Portrait/swords would be a good title.--Fiddler 19:10, 25 August 2005 (PDT)

"Portrait (swords)" would be my preference. But yes, I think that would be neat. --Barrister 19:37, 25 August 2005 (PDT)
While I'm not a big fan of subpages, the < Portrait link at the top of a subpage would be quite handy, especially for searchers. – Yaten talk 19:44, 25 August 2005 (PDT)
I'm kinda assuming that the housing deeds look just like any other shoppe/infrastructure building deed. I suspect the guess at a housing deed was when they were conjecturing that there would be individual deeds like ships. --Guppymomma 06:47, 26 August 2005 (PDT)
Guppymomma has it right, when I did the forum list, that was the exact thinking. I'm now of the opinion that each housing "bazaar" has a deed similar to any other shoppe deed. Unless/until individual houses get deeds (unlikely), I'm happy to take it off the forum list. --Tawnee
If you look in Puzzle Pirates\rsrc\bundles\media\yohoho-general\media\yohoho\icons\items you find that deed.png has three kinds deed icons in it. This is why I think houses may have a different type of deed.--Fiddler 12:14, 26 August 2005 (PDT)
If you have held shoppe deeds, upgraded shoppes and normal shoppes use two different deed looks as I recall. --Guppymomma 11:03, 30 August 2005 (PDT)
The middle icon on deeds.png bears the house icon. And while I've not had a shoppe deed for a long time now, I'm pretty sure that the deed does not change when the shoppe is upgraded (I upgraded Colourful Concoctions, and don't recall any changes to the deed itself, aside from the mouseover changing). --Thunderbird 20:52, 30 August 2005 (PDT)
Well, the middle one is definitely not housing. I just had it confirmed that housing deeds look just like shoppe deeds. --Guppymomma 08:59, 2 September 2005 (PDT)
My shack deed looks like a normal deed. My row house deed does not. (I assume the villa deed looks like a row house's, but I gave it away to a captain and do not recall.) [1] House deeds are not an option for when I do a portrait. --Taconizer 16:10, 2 September 2005 (PDT)
The captain has told me that the villa deed looks like a regular deed. So I suppose the appearance of the row house deed is a mistake. --Taconizer 07:26, 3 September 2005 (PDT)

I'm willing to bet money that the house deed in the middle of the deeds.png icon has been there since before bazaars. If you open the Yohoho Tools and expand Object Layer, Buildings, Carribean, you'll notice the 10 house buildings categorized in 5 separate types, with a shady and nice version of each one. I'm guessing that the original intent (before bazaars came out) was to have individual house buildings, and thus house deeds. Obviously this isn't the case. I'd vote for tossing the House Deed line from the portrait list items, at least until it appears in game if it ever does.--Thunderbird 18:16, 10 October 2005 (PDT)

I agree with removing it as well. --Guppymomma 18:36, 10 October 2005 (PDT)

Poses & Backgrounds

Since we have a list of sword images, then why not have lists of pose images and/or background images? I guess there could be problems with the image sizes, but I think that it could be workable.--Zyborg22 09:16, 30 August 2005 (PDT)

There's already a list of backgrounds and poses. If you just mean adding a column for images, that would be cool, just set the image size to something like 100px so it just shows a thumbnail on the page for folks to click on to get to the full sized one. --Guppymomma 07:30, 1 September 2005 (PDT)
Going through Y!PP's files is against the TOS, isn't it? If that's the case, I probably won't be able to put the backgrounds in without any pirates. Furthermore, I'd have to link the names of the backgrounds to their images since there probably isn't enough room in the table to make another column.--Zyborg22 13:24, 4 September 2005 (PDT)
I'm just coming by to say nice job and wheeeeeee look at all the cute little pirates! --Guppymomma 14:59, 2 September 2005 (PDT)
Thanks. I just hope I don't break any copyright laws by doing this without the pirates' permission.--Zyborg22 16:24, 2 September 2005 (PDT)

Another portrait item?

I've seen some people holding what looks like a clock in their portraits (or something). At first, I thought it might be for Treasure Drop, but one of the people I noticed holding it only has Narrow Treasure Drop experience, so that's out. Any ideas? The person who I most recently noticed holding it was Phoenix on Viridian. Thunderbird 20:55, 30 August 2005 (PDT)

I think you're looking at a compass (check out a picture on the Portrait page to compare). – Yaten talk 21:02, 30 August 2005 (PDT)
I completely missed that. Whoops. Doesn't seem to look like a compass though. Thunderbird 21:42, 30 August 2005 (PDT)

The unknown categories

I've been checking out the puzzles that don't have a known item associated with them. I just got my Shipwrightery to Solid on Viridian, but I do not have any new items to hold in a portrait. At present, I have a Ship Deed, Scimitar, Compass, Cannonball, Powderbag and Saw as item options. --Thunderbird 18:30, 2 September 2005 (PDT)

Thus far the unknown items are being watched by pirates on all the oceans. It's not hard to join the dots from the chart I've got up at the forums (scissors, cloth and hammer look like puzzle items), but they don't go in until they are confirmed I guess.

The rank limited items

Does anyone know if these are available to be held by a pirate that's got the rank, but not the badge for said rank (on doubloon oceans, obviously)? The game's somewhat inconsistent on requirements, as players normally cannot do rank duties without the badge, but I've found it IS possible to assign Officer only titles to a pirate ranked Officer or higher, but lacking the badge (at least they said they didn't have the badge when I checked that one out). My own badge is close to distintegration (3 days), but I don't have the poe for the portrait currently. --Thunderbird 14:30, 8 October 2005 (PDT)

Verified that the rank limited items require the badge in question for them. They disappeared from the selection list when my badge dusted, and came back when I replaced it. --Thunderbird 08:09, 11 October 2005 (PDT)

New LE item comments

When I added the entry, I made the assumption of current production ocean portrait prices instead of the Ice price of 10k, based on a conversation with Lionizer which led me to believe the portraits are multiples of 10k on Ice only. We'll find out when this update comes out to the production oceans though. --Thunderbird 15:47, 8 October 2005 (PDT)

Skull

There are factors pointing to the possibility that in order to hold a skull in a portrait, you have to be carrying one that has your name on it. Dragonlilly tried to get a skull in a portrait just a bit ago, but since the skull in her inventory was not her own, she was unable to hold it. I can't test whether skulls are still there on Midnight (no skull of my own) or Viridian (lacking poe for the portrait, 2k short). I doubt that skulls were removed altogether, but I want to make sure. --Thunderbird 20:55, 26 October 2005 (PDT)

I'm testing it right now, expect another edit shortly.--Gloraelin 21:17, October 26, 2005 (PDT)
Ok, tested, and the skulls are still available for portraits. However, the one I tried it with was the one I got myself, so maybe they are 'painted' or something.--Gloraelin 21:24, October 26, 2005 (PDT)
I can see about borrowing a skull from Yaten on Cobalt tomorrow where I have the money to test it if nobody figures it out sooner. --Guppymomma 21:29, 26 October 2005 (PDT)
Just tested it. Can't get a portrait with another's skull.--Fiddler 22:01, 26 October 2005 (PDT)

poe

For the poe, what does it mean by 200,001 PoE after portrait fee? --Pevarnj 15:23, 14 December 2005 (PST)

As in you need to have 200,001 poe in your pirate's universal purse after the portrait fee is deducted in order to get the handful of poe as an option. So if it's a 40k portrait, you'll need at least 240,001 poe. --Guppymomma 15:28, 14 December 2005 (PST)

Hammer

So, has anyone suggested the possibility of the hammer belonging to the Furnishing puzzle yet? --Featherfin 03:06, 22 January 2006 (PST)

I've removed the speculation about all the unknown items. Perhaps a speculation section at the bottom would be more appropriate? Especially since the Ringers have hinted we'll get drinking mugs (skull, flagon, etc.) soon. --Barrister 23:22, 4 February 2006 (PST)

Eggs

Get your eggs right here! - http://midnight.puzzlepirates.com/yoweb/gallery/portrait.wm?pirate=Barrister&itemid=7381763

The egg images are up. By the way, wouldn't the egg creators be worthy of their own page, since they made an item for the game? Then again, the same could be said about those who draw the Limited Edition backgrounds.--Zyborg22 20:09, 30 March 2006 (PST)
Two more eggs - http://midnight.puzzlepirates.com/yoweb/gallery/portrait.wm?pirate=Eurydice&itemid=7411716 --Barrister 18:19, 6 April 2006 (PDT)
Niftyroo. Have added 'em to Art:Eggs ahoy! --Guppymomma 19:00, 6 April 2006 (PDT)

Handwraps

You can have your portrait taken with the hand wraps as an item for the Fight Night 2006 event. Should that be put in the item list on the Portrait article, or should it be put in a Fight Night 2006 event article along with the event itself?--Zyborg22 20:13, 30 March 2006 (PST)

The same goes for the funny glasses (you can indeed have them in portraits); how about we make a subcategory, "limited-time items," and settle it right there (and have in the event page, too)? -Emufarmers 19:31, 31 March 2006 (PST)
I like that idea, although the Funny Glasses technically aren't items. They're hats. They should still be on the event page, though.--Zyborg22 20:01, 31 March 2006 (PST)
Ah, yes, good point; well, we could have a "limited edition portrait...Uh...Parts?" column, then...Maybe under historical notes, if need be? --Emufarmers 20:02, 31 March 2006 (PST)
Not sure that "Historical Notes" is quite right. Also, here's a portrait with both male and female noses. --Barrister 00:13, 1 April 2006 (PST)
I've already uploaded portrait versions of the funny glasses for males and females. I just haven't used them anywhere yet.--Zyborg22 07:14, 1 April 2006 (PST)

Cloth

I'm getting the option to hold a cloth in my portrait, so it looks as if this item has been enabled; however, I can't immediately see what the trigger is for it. --Ruddigore 10:38, 6 April 2006 (PDT)

Simple as having a bundle of cloth in inventory, it seems. --Ruddigore 15:37, 6 April 2006 (PDT)
Verified! Nice find! --Fannon 15:42, 6 April 2006 (PDT)

New layout?

I'm not really a big fan of the layout of this page. I've taken a stab at reorganizing the items by group at User:Barrister/Sandbox. My experiments lead me to conclude that layout will continue to be tricky unless we have a standard size for the images. Thoughts? --Barrister 22:50, 10 April 2006 (PDT)

Images like the 'Navigation Wheel' can be scaled down to fit in with the rest of the images. If all the images are made roughly the same size, why not set the row hights all the same, to make it look neater? --Sagacious 23:45, 10 April 2006 (PDT)
Is there anything in Wiki markup that lets you force tables to be a set size? You could set the item row to be as wide as the widest item (probably the nav wheel) and make it standard for all portrait item tables. If you can't make them the same width, consider an invisible spacer, which can be put into the top row right along with the portrait item. I'm personally not for shrinking or stretching items because people may think the items are supposed to be that size in portraits. It's nice to see that the items are scaled to the pirate.--Benzene265 21:47, 11 April 2006 (PDT)
I've got a more complete layout for a possible "Portrait (items)" page that would include all the weapons. I'm envisioning a page for backgrounds and another page for poses. Familiars and injuries could probably stay on the main Portrait page. --Barrister 19:55, 15 April 2006 (PDT)

Location

I feel like this page should somehow indicate that if your portrait is in the palace, you get the island name + governor name in the location. If it's in a shoppe/house you get the shoppe/house, island, and governor names. If it's on a ship in port, you end up with the ship name only. I'm not 100% sure if a ship at sea shows anything other than the ship name. Is location worth a new section on the page? I could see it working at the beginning too, but it's such a nice concise description, I hate to obscure it with too much extra info, y'know? --Tamsin 10:11, 23 May 2006 (PDT)

I think the current text fits just fine and is plenty detailed enough: "The date the portrait was commissioned, as well as the location of the easel, can be viewed on the gallery view of the portrait." --Rixation(t/c) 10:41, 23 May 2006 (PDT)
