Talk:Limited edition ship

From YPPedia

Linkified images: genius or folly?

So, I'm reasonably familiar with wikis in general, and the YPPedia in particular. I know perfectly well that images almost never serve as general hyperlinks, and will pretty much always take you to the information page for that image. And yet, almost every time I come to this page, I end up accidentally navigating to image info for a ship's dock view, when I intended to go to a specific ship page. (Having been conditioned by the entire rest of the internet to expect hyperlink images serving as informational thumbnails to behave in a certain way.)

Now, I fully understand why wiki images should almost always link to image info, but because these images are full-resolution to begin with, and because the pages that the links below them direct you to also include these images, (with links to info) does anyone think it would be acceptable to turn the ship images on this page into links to the LE ship pages in question? (In addition to the text below them, not as a replacement.)

I'm reasonably sure this could be done by changing Template:Limited_edition_ship from this:

<br>{class} class {kind}

To this:

<br>{class} class {kind}

I suspect there are many good arguments against this, and probably also best practice style policies, but I figured I'd toss it out for discussion. --Ladodal 05:15, 9 August 2012 (PDT)

It sounds perfectly reasonable to me. Chupchup 05:48, 9 August 2012 (PDT)
Agree.  ;-)   Thumb's up. -- Franklincain (t/c) 07:33, 9 August 2012 (PDT)

Legendary class sloop -- July only? or several months?

According to the chart, the Legendary class sloop appears to have been available from July through October of 2016. Usually, the limited class ships are available only for one calendar month each. However, I wasn't around during that time, so I can not say for certain whether or not this ship was available for several months.

Please advise: Was this ship available for all of those months? Or do we need to fix the chart?

Thanks! -- Franklincain (t/c)

It was indeed available for most of that 4 month period. It came out ~July 6 and was available until October 26 (when Howling class replaced it) . --Sagacious (talk) 06:31, 12 October 2017 (UTC)

what of the atlantean frigate?

According to the introductory text at Limited edition ship it qualifies as LE: Limited edition ships have a special "limited edition" icon appearing on their dock/vessel image.. However it isn't truly "limited edition" because it's always available.

Is it worth splitting the page into sections - e.g. limited availability and always available?

The Atlantean class war frigate is a ship requiring a design for construction. Despite the fact that these sorts of ships have an icon appearing on their dock/vessel image, they're not limited edition because they can be ordered at any time one has a design (and the shipyard has the supplies).
Though it's sort of useless for at a glance differentiation, limited edition ships possess limited edition ship icons, while ships requiring designs for construction have non-limited edition ship icons. I believe that distinction merely makes the text of the limited edition ship article not contradictory (or perhaps only slightly less). To phrase it slightly differently (and likely just as unhelpfully), the icon on the dock/vessel image does not imply limited edition but limited edition ships imply they do have an icon on their image.
To make the situation worse, there are limited edition painted ships which don't have an icon appearing on their dock/vessel image. They instantly get created upon opening their sealed deed, thus don't need to be constructed, let alone require a design to be constructed.
The short version: it's a trap tricky to define succinctly. -- Faulkston 01:48, 9 May 2018 (UTC)

2021?

Why is there a complete table for 2021? Has it been announced that all these LE ships will be brought back next year? Chupchup 04:40, 24 December 2020 (UTC)

Aha, I see this forum announcement. Good call. Chupchup 04:43, 24 December 2020 (UTC)
Yes, I based it on that forum post. Patgangster 13:58, 24 December 2020 (UTC)
