Drinking is fairly simple. Place mugs and clear rows. That's pretty much it, there's not some "really cool secret" to doing it. However, there is a common strategy that commonly recurs. Here are some good tips to help improve your game.

Fries and Barrels and Hooks

Fries

Fries are VERY important. At the beginning of each match you get a box of fries to start off the match. Placing this box in the center is a wise choice, as it maximizes your possible moves. If a random Fries appear during the match, then remember to place it in a row that has more of your pieces then your enemies. If an enemie places a Fries in a row where you have little to none pieces in it, start building a row going off of that row. Fries can benefit you, but dont let them benefit your opposer!

Barrels

Barrels can match the color of any piece on the board. Remember, once it has assumed a color it wont let that color go. Also, it can only be one color. This piece is pretty useless if you are playing a shorter game. In longer games, it can help you get that one last row cleared.

Hooks

Hooks remove pieces from the board. These are GREAT for dismantling someone's uncompleted row. Just remember, remove pieces in a way that doesn't affect your rows!

Game Settings

Setting the right game settings are equally important as everything else. For the standing range, only make it one or two standings above or below you. Playing without mugs balances it out a lot, and balanced drinking games are the easiest. ALWAYS do winner takes all and standard rules, these settings are very important as they offer a balanced gameplay. Usually set the score limit anywhere from 1000-1500, anything higher usually gets too boring. ALWAYS do 6 colors and shapes. This gives you the maximum possible chances to win.

Rows

Rows are the key to Drinking. Clearing rows gets you several hundred points per row, enough to easily win a 1000 in a few steps. Usually try to build your rows from top to bottom, center to edges. You can use enemie's pieces in your row, but they also get points for anyone clearing their pieces, so try to have your pieces out-number the enemies.

Basic Types

The main Drinking page has many different types of players. Here are 3 basic categories of players to make it less confusing.

  • Defensive Players will try to keep you from "sabotaging" their rows. They will use Barrels to try to keep different colors out. If you are facing a defender, then try to use the Hook piece to dismantle their rows. Try to take out pieces in the middle of the board, as they are harder to replace. If you are a defender, then you have no real true defense from a Hook. Just try to have a back up row at all times in case your main row is "sabotaged".
  • Aggressive Players will try to build rows off of other rows. They rely heavily on "sabotaging" other player's rows. The best way to defeat them is to use the Barrel to "lock them out" of your rows. However, this can also mean sacrificing back up rows.
  • Solo Players try to build rows on the opposite side of the board so they wont get entangled with other rows. Depending on your knowledge of Drinking, this can either be the key to a quick win or a horrible loss. There are no real tips or strategies for these players, so be creative!
