PoE sink
From YPPedia
A PoE sink is the term given to any part of the game that decreases the amount of PoE in the ocean's economy, rather than having is pass from one player to another.
Without PoE sinks, the economy would experience a significant amount of inflation as time goes by. Without effective ways of reducing the number of Pieces of Eight, with PoE fountains increasing the amount of currency running around in the system, the value of the PoE would decrease.
PoE sinks should not be confused with commodity sinks - a hat that decays does not decrease the amount of PoE in the game except indirectly through taxes if a replacement is bought.
Some examples of PoE sinks:
- Sales taxes paid when purchasing items from a shoppe or stall.
- Fees for Portraits
- War chests
- Brigands taking PoE from your ship in combat.
- Taxes on selling Doubloons.
- Fees paid for Market bidding.
- Charts bought from shipyards.
- Money used to buy Housing.
- Familiar auctions, and fees for special Ocean Master or Ringer services[1].
- Booty removed by the black ship.
- Buying commodities from merchants.
- Buying gems from a commodities market. (Midnight only)
- Buying ships from Ringer owned shipyards. (new oceans only)
- Buying portraits using an easel.
- PoE belonging to deleted pirates.
