Fame is a measurement of a crew or flag's activity. When a pirate plays a puzzle, the pirate's crew and flag both receive credit towards their fame. If the pirate is jobbing, the pirate's own crew/flag and not the crew/flag they are jobbed into receives the credit for the activity. There are, from lowest to highest, nine levels of fame:

  • Aspiring
  • Obscure
  • Rumored
  • Noted
  • Established
  • Renowned
  • Celebrated
  • Eminent
  • Illustrious

For a crew to join a flag, the crew must be at least Rumored.

To create a new flag, the crew must be at least Established.

There are minimum requirements for a flag's fame that determines whether or not it may blockade certain islands:

Although the exact fame measurements are not publicly known, good performance at a puzzle is known to generate more fame than bad performance. All puzzle playing generates fame. Fame cannot be lost through poor performance while puzzling, but degrades slowly with time. Fame earned for a crew and a flag (if the crew is in a flag) stays for a duration of approximately two weeks, so constant puzzling is needed to keep the amount of fame steady.

Historical Notes

  • Aspiring was split into Aspiring and Obscure with release 2009-11-18.
  • When fame was introduced, the levels needed to blockade on Midnight and Cobalt were two levels higher, and Viridian's requirement was one level higher than the present settings. This was changed to the current settings sometime around March 10, 2007.
