The Black Rum was founded on March 12, 2006. Under the guidance of its captain, Madme, it has grown in fame and known for its merriment and carousing skills. The crew name is based on the song "Old Black Rum" by Great Big Sea. Yar, the ol' Black Rum has a hold on me.

July 15th, 2006 - The Malevolent Misfits under command of Buffsrule made a bold move and merged with the Black Rum, combining their forces and experience, growing stronger as one crew.

Our PIRATE Code: a few rules to live, die, and drink by...

Article ONE

Regardless of rank (greenie swabbie to old-salt-dawg captain), all mates should ask permission to board (PTB) any ship (e.g., PTB Decent Puffer?). Wait fer a reply, if none is granted, the ship is either in battle, full, busy memming routes, or the crew aboard is too occupied to have time to answer. If ye board without askin, ye will be planked immediately. This rule does not apply to OPEN BOARDING calls at these times, just hop on mate n' join in on the pillaging fun.

Article TWO

If ye are on a pillage: DO NOT LEAVE OR LAZE DURING BATTLE! This puts all mates at risk chum! Not to mention our precious hold - the booty! If ye need to leave during a pillage, part ways BEFORE the battle commences (ye will be paid for the battles ye took part in). If we find ye lazing on the ship, ye will be planked and fed to the sharks. Abandoning ship during a battle or being plank automatically gets you (-1) rating in the booty divvy, meaning less pieces o' eight (PoE) fer ye and yarrrr, that ain't good mate!!

Article THREE

While on a War Brig (WB) or War Frig (WF) pillage, any mate staying the FULL length of a pillage will be awarded (+1) in the booty divvy. This means more PoE fer ye mate to line yer booty purse.

Article FOUR

Be HELPFUL to all mates, many pirates are new to the game and need more than a bit o' luck to help them on their way. This also means to respect yer fellow mate and obey orders from higher ranking Officers. Do not ask to be a full member during the pillage mate, everyone's focus should be on keeping the ship at sea running smoothly; best ye to wait at a break in the pillage, or at the very end. The booty will be divvy only at the END of the pillage.

RANKS

Within this crew, ranks do mean something, it's a sign of commitment, accomplishment, and respect. These requirements may seem to be demanding; however, we encourage our members to practice and improve yer piracy skills, as better jobbing means more BOOTY fer all!!! Those mates possessing a special skill (e.g., legendary in carpentry) will be awarded a special title reflecting their achievement.

Cabin Person:

Any mate proven their salt on a pillage is welcome to become a full member. This means being a good jobber and not a nuisance to anyone in the crew.

Pirate:

Ye must have at least BROAD experience in carp, bilge, sails, and guns and at least a DISTINGUISH rating in two piracy skills. All newly appointed pirates will enter the Officer-training course (more on that below). Unless ye have a special jobbing skill, pirates will be offered three possible titles: Bait, Urchin, or Drunk (yarrr... the rum!).

Officer:

Obtained SOLID experience in ALL jobbing stations (including Navigation) and hold at least a RENOWNED rating in two piracy skills. To achieved this rank, ye must have completed the FINAL exam of the Officer training course. Officers will be allowed to take their own vessel out for pillages as long as one FO, SO, or Captain is present.

Fleet Officer:

These mates will have full access to the Rum fleet and thus have proven themselves to be trustworthy to the crew and have gained mutual respect among the higher ranking Officer staff. Mates considered for this rank will be done though a case-by-case scenario and discussion among the current FOs, SOs, and the captain himself.

Senior Officer:

By captain's approval only. SOs are the captain's right hand and expected to lead (and win) daily pillages, train the new recruits, and show incredible leadership and command abilities.

The Officer's Training Course

This course sets us apart from many crews - we want to help ye advance yer skills AND show ye the ropes on how to be Officer material. All newly promoted pirates are automatically enrolled in this training course. This is a go-at-yer-own-pace course, there's no set timeline for ye to complete the training. Ye will be assigned an SO or even the Captain himself as yer trainer. Please respect that the trainers accommodate everyone fairly and give our attention equally; however, we cannot be training ye every day of the week (we need to have our R&R too chum!). The training course will progress as the trainer sees fit, progress reports will be made to the Captain, and when yer trainer and ye feel that ye are ready, ye will take the Officer training course final exam. When (yes, not if) ye pass the exam and meet all other rank requirements (see above), ye will be awarded rank of Officer and a title hand picked by yer trainer to boot!
