[hide]History
Ookville is a very unique crew, started and built up by two cousins, both of whom had rocky experiences in previous crews. Throughout their pirating careers, they encountered numerous instances of unfairness and plain stupidity of officers and pirates alike. When circumstances permitted, Shiftyeyes and Sweek decided to start their own crew, vowing to fight against unfairness and stupidity.
Both Shiftyeyes and Sweek spent most of their greenie lives in the crew Sapphire Serpents (now disbanded) under the leadership of Rissika (who's account has since been deleted.) Shiftyeyes later moved to The Black Dawn Raiders, then under the leadership of Roode (who's account has since been deleted,) where he honed his skills and learned most of what he knows now.
Shortly after Sapphire Serpents' captain Rissika decided to retire, Sweek was driven from the crew by the new, inexperienced captain (who soon merged the crew into another anyway). Sweek spent some time with The Black Dawn Raiders, then joined up with Shiftyeyes in the making of the crew. Ookville was formed on the 13th of November, 2005. The original crew included five pirates: Shiftyeyes, Sweek, Tippmann, Cosmicfruit and, shortly after the initial creation, Sweetpickles.
In late May of 2006, for various reasons, Ookville merged with Shiftyeyes' old crew, The Black Dawn Raiders. On June 7, 2006, Anberline and Shiftyeyes re-created Ookville, bringing together pirates and aquaintences, old and new, from both Anberline and Shiftyeyes, including most of the old crew. Anberline became the new captain, and the politics became autocratic, based on trust and efficiency.
Crew Information
All are invited to join Ookville, but do not expect to be any more than a cabin person if you have a tendency to behave like an idiot. Ookville does not tolerate stupid actions, such as marooning ships at uninhabited islands, not restocking ships, leaving ships without officers at sea, taking out large ships under-manned, and so forth. If you have half a brain and a little common sense, you are welcome to join. Greenies and ignorant pirates are welcome; they will be happy to teach you everything they know. On the flip-side, they will also be delighted to learn from any experienced pirates.
The crew is run as an autocracy. Originally, the crew was to be ran as an oligarchy and have no captain (only senior officers,) but Sweek and Shiftyeyes decided that having a captain was best. The old oligarchy served two purposes: First, it represented the joint-ownership of Ookville by Shiftyeyes and Sweek. Second, it protected the crew from being ruined in the hands of a single poor authority figure, as the Sapphire Serpents had been. After being re-created, it became Autocratic. An oligarchy wasn't nessesary when the members trusted each other enough. The crew could run much more efficiently than before.
The booty split is even with all pirates in our pillages. It was decided that lower-ranked pirates work just as hard (if not harder) than the higher-ranked pirates at the duty station puzzles. A successful pillage is not possible without every crew member doing their job.
Promotion Requirements and Rules
Ookville has one basic rule: Don't be stupid.
Recommended General Guidelines
- It's nice to share leftover restocking money with the other officers onboard
- Don't laze about or leave the computer for extended periods of time during a pillage
- If you have a special talent for gunning (or any station skill, for that matter,) please let us know, but don't take the gunning station without being asked.
Recommended Officer Guidelines
- Always restock
- Never leave a ship without an officer or at an uninhabited island
- Be reasonable
- Don't abuse your privileges and respect higher ranks
- Don't board a ship in the middle of a pillage and try to take charge
Promotion Requirements
- Cabin Person - Just ask...
- Pirate - Have the badge, and don't make a habit of taking a gunning station without being asked.
- Officer - You must have displayed full competency in the ways of pillaging. You must have at least a broad in three different station skills.
- Fleet Officer - Have at least five broads under piracy (not including swordfighting and rumbling.) Display loyalty to the crew. We'd rather you not be a floater.
- Senior Officer - Only the most skilled, knowledgeable and loyal pirates will be candidates for the rank of senior officer.
Final Statements and Crew Poem
Come ook around with them, and wear the Ookville crew colors, navy and green!
"Cheeked"
By: Shiftyeyes
A pirate ship upon the sea
A cutter's booty as full as can be
Bound for Lima's safety
Not wanting to engage again
Praying for a strong, swift wind
Just wanting to split the money
Plunder great, the crew relieved
At the sight of land, agreed
It had been a mighty fine trip
The wind began to blow the sails
But no one noticed it also filled
The sails of a second ship
The captain climbed into the nest
And spotted the sloop before the rest
And told what he had seen
Upon a flag, a figure big
Doing some kind of ooky jig
Boxed in with navy and green
All the sails worked by the crew
Not fast enough, the captain knew
And cried out, "Battle stations!"
"Fill the sails, carp, then bilge!"
"I'll take the helm with my fine skill"
"At battle navigation."
As the sloop drew ever near
The crew began to fill with fear
As they heard a battlecry, "Eeee!"
The captain, back to deck, he raced
And scanned the Ookville sloop with haste
And shouted "PVP!"
Confidence quickly shrunk to less
Turn one had already become a mess
The captain feared defeat
The cutter swung two portside turns
The captain shouted "We're gonna run!"
And began a quick retreat
Around the rocks the cutter sailed
But their retreat had finally failed
Above the coral shelves
The captain's hopelessness was clear
As the sloop's broadside drew near
And four cannons emptied themselves
The damage up, and like the tide
The bilge was ever on the rise
And the hull smoldered and leaked
Ookville's first mate took a rise
Satisfaction in her eyes
Peered at the cutter and said, "Cheeked."
The grapple flew, the battle began
And the crew said, "We can win!"
"We have strength in number!"
But with their damage all maxed out
The captain soon began to shout
"Stall! Reteam! Scupper..."
One thing they can be thankful for
Is how close they were to land before
Their ship, cannons maxed it
And the crew will never forget
The day they pillaged and they met
The dreaded Ookville pirates
