[hide]! Template
Sorry, the {{Midnight|foo}} approach doesn't really work if used as a template parameter since that is an autolink too. It renders with additional brackets visible around the link. --Alfwyn 09:56, 9 March 2008 (PDT)
I guess I used an unlucky formulated disclaimer at the helpdesk. What I wanted to express was that while I'm confident that it works and is a good idea to use, I would rather like to see it used on some pages first before using it in other templates or changing a lot of pages to use it. --Alfwyn 12:07, 9 March 2008 (PDT)

On my pirate page, [[Iameric], i had a list of two ships that were renamed using one shanghai and you took the list off of my page. I'm just wondering if it had something to do with the fact that they were only renamed using one shanghai instead of two but i'd just like to know the reason for the edit. If you want proof do a /vw on the Sick Spot and Prickly Pufferfish (this ship is no longer in my possesion)
My pirate article
DonkykongsHey i was wondering soemthing sicne idotn ahve my own gallery and portrait could imake a picture or image on the program "Paint" then save it with the right name then upload it as my pirates image or portrait? If i can could you tell me what i should name the picture and what image tag. Because itried it but it says extension error.
Second portrait page deleted
Could u please explain why u did that? Pirate is Owlwhisperer. Thank you.
I understood why you deleted the portrait, BUT that page contained another image, and i was going to post some text too. What this full deletion has done is discourage me from being creative and contributing. Which is sad. And also, i wrote to the hosting site for my avatar, they have not answered yet as to whether it is copyright violation. They have instructions on their site how to use the avatar in yahoo signature (here), this is why i assumed i am allowed to post the image as long as i provide the link to their site. (I'm sorry for this multiple editing, not all ideas came at the same time.)--Saintdiana 00:43, 16 April 2008 (PDT)
dispusted tag
I'm not quite sure if this page should have this tag {{disputed}} (Usage) Or possibly this one:
The values used in this article are for the purposes of demonstrating relative values only. | |
The actual mechanical values behind the puzzle are undetermined as of this time. |
Or none? Just thought I'd ask someone who knows better. --Inschato 19:25, 17 April 2008 (PDT)
Flag id required
- I just created a page located Castaway Cove. I was not sure where I would find a flag id, could you please add the flag id of Castaway Cove to the page. Thanks! Jodiee5 00:25, 23 April 2008 (PDT)
- Awesome! Thanks for the tip, it'll really make things easier for me. :) Jodiee5 01:38, 23 April 2008 (PDT)
Malachite
Ahoy, just wondering where all the lovely info regarding Malachite Ocean is coming from. Just wondered if I would be able to get a head start on getting the shoppe pages sorted out. --Fearlessphil 14:24, 5 May 2008 (PDT)

- Probably not worth starting the shoppe pages until we can gain access to the ocean. -- Cedarwings (talk) 14:29, 5 May 2008 (PDT)
- Thanks. I just started trying to do a shoppe page, then relised how little information could actually be put on. I'll go back to doing the Sage ones then. --Fearlessphil 14:37, 5 May 2008 (PDT)

Regarding the inscription on Viper's Drop, I wrote it as LonelyDucky as that is how it appears on the inscription itself. Should we make it a piped link instead? --Belthazar451 05:31, 8 May 2008 (PDT)
- Good point. I will look into this. -- Cedarwings (talk) 12:26, 8 May 2008 (PDT)

interlinks
Interlinks should be used when linking to wikipedia? Re: your recent edits =P -- Burninat0r 00:00, 12 May 2008 (PDT)
- Yup! They are a little prettier then an external link. -- Cedarwings (talk) 00:24, 12 May 2008 (PDT)
- They're prettier, but isn't wikipedia external? /e is mildly confused. --Burninat0r 11:47, 12 May 2008 (PDT)

Island IDs
I'm vaguely curious as to the point of adding the island IDs to the island infoboxes for Malachite, considering that most of them simply send you to a "can't find this colonised island!" page. If you are planning to continue with it, you may want to hold off on doing anything past Draco - I think we may shortly find another island to the east of Spizzwink, and I'm not sure how many more (if any) there will be past that. --Belthazar451 05:57, 14 May 2008 (PDT)
- I've mentioned this once before, but I can't seem to remember which page it was on so here it goes again. We know that Barracuda has an islandid=44. Islandid's are given based on an alphabetical list of archipelagos and the islands contained in each one. Since we know what Barracuda, Chelydra, Chysalis, and Salstraum are it is safe to add islandid's to the islands prior to those on the ocean list. The only archipelagos that could have more islands in them are Lacerta and Whiptail. -- Cedarwings (talk) 06:05, 14 May 2008 (PDT)
- That's not entirely true. Changes can be made to island names without affecting the underlying island ID numbers. --Fiddler 06:13, 14 May 2008 (PDT)
- Aye, there is a precedent for island IDs being out of order - cf Basset Island and Admiral Island. That said, part of my point was why we need to add all the island ids. The uninhabited islands on the other arches don't have it listed. --Belthazar451 06:49, 14 May 2008 (PDT)
- That's not entirely true. Changes can be made to island names without affecting the underlying island ID numbers. --Fiddler 06:13, 14 May 2008 (PDT)
- There also appears to be a precedent of omitting island IDs from uncolonized islands. Looking around Sage and Hunter articles, the only infoboxes with IDs are the colonized ones. --Chupchup 13:42, 14 May 2008 (PDT)
- Fine. While I agree and disagree with some of the comments, I have removed them anyway. As for the islandid's being in order, it goes both ways. Cobalt, Viridian and Hunter are all in order. And so far it would appear that Malachite is too. We'll see as time goes on. As for Belthazar's comments about another island in Draco, I disagree, but that is just my opinion. -- Cedarwings (talk) 15:10, 14 May 2008 (PDT)
- Sorry, I didn't mean for you to have to go through all that work over again. And yes, my theory about another island in Draco is quite possibly completely and utterly wrong. =) --Belthazar451 18:49, 14 May 2008 (PDT)
Flotilla pages
I hate to interrupt in the middle of your work, but I'm not sure I see how updating User:Amoyer/Templates/Cobalt Ocean flotillas would then feed into the individual brigand king pages. --Fiddler 09:49, 16 May 2008 (PDT)
- I know, I realized that part way through and I'm trying to work it out. -- Cedarwings (talk) 09:54, 16 May 2008 (PDT)
- Hang on a few minutes, I've got an idea. Let me mock something up real fast.--Fiddler 09:58, 16 May 2008 (PDT)
Take a look at this - User:Fiddler/Sandbox 3. Top section is the separate page, bottom is how to include it in the articles. We'll end up with 42 subpages, each of which can be edited independently. Someone updating can click through the Cobalt flotillas page and hit edit, but someone looking at the brigand king article would just see the information. The template will need to be revised to to simply show the one ocean at a time so it can be easily tabled for the king's article. --Fiddler 10:06, 16 May 2008 (PDT)
- What I was trying to do was minimize the number of edits required to update an oceans' flotillas. You mock up certainly makes it easier to locate all of the pages to update, but it still requires the same number of edits in the end. -- Cedarwings (talk) 10:09, 16 May 2008 (PDT)
- Although, I'm not sure what I was thinking is even possible. -- Cedarwings (talk) 10:15, 16 May 2008 (PDT)
- Right, but I think it's the only way to provide the information on both pages. You can only transclude complete pages, not parts (excepting noinclude, but that only works once per page) and you can't have one template access the variables set in another template.--Fiddler 10:18, 16 May 2008 (PDT)
- I got to the point where I realized I couldn't access the variables set in another template that really stopped me. I'll take bits and pieces from everywhere and make a clean mock up. -- Cedarwings (talk) 10:22, 16 May 2008 (PDT)
- Might I suggest putting the Edit Flotilla link inside the flotilla box itself? I edited your Cobalt Ocean Flotillas template to demonstrate. It looks a bit prettier (though at present doesn't have the right URL - not sure how to fix it). --Belthazar451 23:22, 16 May 2008 (PDT)

Ultimate List Template
I created a new template for diplaying the ultimate list on puzzle pages. The template can be found at Template:Ultlist. The format for the template is simply {{ultlist|x}}, where x is the ID number for the puzzle in question - for example, SF is 0, drinking is 1, bilging is 2, et cetera. This is to simplify updates to the ultimate list table. For example if a new ocean is added (as has happened) then rather than update all eighteen puzzle pages, we just need to update the one template.
Unfortunately, in creating it, my reach exceeded my grasp a little. I'd wanted to make it more user-friendly - rather than entering the puzzle ID, I wanted the user to be able to enter the puzzle name, as in {{ultlist|Drinking}}. To that end, I created a lookup template named Template:Puzzletype and associated yes/no templates. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be passing values correctly, and I can't for the life of me work out what's wrong. Since the ultlist template wouldn't be used by general users very often, I probably didn't need the more user-friendly format after all, and so they can probably be deleted.
In any case, I've installed my new template on the Carousing puzzle pages so you (and others) can see how it looks before I go the whole hog and put it on all the puzzle pages. --Belthazar451 22:12, 24 May 2008 (PDT)
- Bleh, worked out the problem - you'd think I would have thought of case sensitivity FIRST. The question now is whether it's still worth implementing. Especially since it'd require eighteen pairs of yes/no templates. --Belthazar451 17:06, 25 May 2008 (PDT)
- It's probably not worth it. If there was another application for this, then maybe. But I'm not sure it is worth the effort. I was trying to work it out, but without the functionality of the "if" function, it ends up requiring a lot more work then I was willing to put into it. The addition of the {{Ultlist}} (Usage) helps, especially for future additions and changes. One thing that might be useful is to put an usage section on that template that has a list of what each ult list's number is (ie. 25=TD, etc.). -- Cedarwings (talk) 21:07, 25 May 2008 (PDT)
- Aye, I was going to add the usage section once we decided to implement the template fully. Given your okay, I think I'll go and add the template to the other puzzle pages now. It's simple enough later if we want to change back just by adding a subst in the template call. Since we're not going to use the puzzletype template I tentatively created, it and the assorted sub-templates probably need deleting - sorry for adding the extra work. --Belthazar451 22:14, 25 May 2008 (PDT)
