The '''battle axe''' is a type of [[sword]], used by the [[Brigand King]] [[Brynhild Skullsplitter]], as well as [[viking raid|vikings]]. It cannot be produced at an [[iron monger]]s, and no pirate has been known to own one.

The battle axes wielded by vikings always have the same [[swordfighting drop pattern|drop pattern]] as a [[backsword]]. However, the battle axe has also been seen as part of a [[tournament]] configuration [http://forums.puzzlepirates.com/community/mvnforum/viewthread?thread=105124] in 2008. According to players, it had used a drop pattern similar or identical to that of a [[cleaver]].
