A zombie hand is a trinket placed in one's inventory. Zombie hands are won by all players still alive when a player team beats a team of zombies.
Zombie hands have no apparent use or advantage, but they can be used in portraits[1] as long as as the zombie hand being used was won by the same person. Zombie hands do not decay. They can be displayed as trinkets.

Zombie hands were implemented in release 2007-10-16 but not activated until October 24, 2007.
Zombie hands could not be held in portraits prior to release 2007-10-24.
