From YPPedia
Terminology.png Hey, wait a minute!
I'm not actually away. In fact, I haven't been for some time. But nobody bothered to remind me to take this notice down, so I've decided to leave it up as an eternal reminder to myself to take care of those things which are right in front of me, but I can't bring myself to do.

User page link (here)

You may want to remove the first here (12th word). It shows up twice due to the link. --pevarnj (t/c) 15:13, 27 February 2006 (PST)

Ah, you're right. Forgive me: I'm used to vBulletin formatting, not wiki-style things. :P

--Emufarmers 15:34, 27 February 2006 (PST)

White Rose

The flag they were in went away, not the White Rose crew. :) --Guppymomma 20:32, 3 March 2006 (PST)

Ah, I see: That's what I get for not reading the whole thing. :P --Emufarmers 20:34, 3 March 2006 (PST)

Pirate Pages

I brought this here as it's more an "in general" thing than specifically related to an article. Generally, Attesmythe's page is the standard for pirate pages. That general formatting has been used on other pages with great success, and adjusted as needed based on information avaiable. (Example, some people provide former captain positions but no date line to reference a history off of, so we can only do a contributions section instead of a full history). I hope this helps you with other pages. --Fannon 15:56, 7 March 2006 (PST)

I'll definately keep that in mind: It should work quite well in the case of Caesarae, because I can just ask him for most of the dates if need be, but I'll definately base future edits of pirate pages off it. I am curious, though: Why hasn't anybody made a pirate infobox yet? Do people not consider infoboxes for pirate pages to be a good idea? --Emufarmers 16:07, 7 March 2006 (PST)
I believe the reason would be related somehow to the fact that there is no great content set to base the box of off. That is, some people (like me!! woot!) have pages solely for winning familiars. So how would we create the box? Have the option for everything that applies? Putting current crew/flag info in the box would be a waste of the time necessary, as quite a few pages are cross ocean linked, not to mention the alts that some people have used to win familiars. Does that answer the question at all? --Fannon 16:14, 7 March 2006 (PST)
Fannon pretty much has summed it up. Someone tried to create an infobox that basically had all the info off a pirate's user page...but it wasn't practical to sit around updating everyone's stats & such since this can change every time one puzzles. That left a really tiny infobox with the name of the crew/flag they were in, which wasn't really of enough size to merit a universalized infobox. There is a set of thingees for portraits, but even those can vary as to what oceans a pirate has 'em on (and change if they give them all away or frame them). --Guppymomma 18:12, 7 March 2006 (PST)
I suppose you're right: I was just checking to make sure that it had at least been tried. I suppose this is one case where there's no real perfect solution, and we're going to be stuck having to rip up pirate pages for formatting purposes. :/ --Emufarmers 18:46, 7 March 2006 (PST)

Re:Note thingy I'm mostly just checking for infoboxes, updating existing infoboxes and doing minor cleanups. I've yet to find a major cleanup of the, oh, 12 that I've done, but I'll probably just stick a tag on it and do it later when I do find it. --Fannon 07:38, 8 March 2006 (PST)

Thingees needing an infobox

You can label 'em with uhhhh {{cleanupfor|adding an infobox}} if you want. Thanks for the bumping! (that just sounds odd....:)) --Guppymomma 20:44, 6 April 2006 (PDT)

I'll apply it as necessary. And nonesense: Let the bumping commence! :P (And everybody knows you spell "thingies" with an "-ie," heretic! :D) --Emufarmers 20:47, 6 April 2006 (PDT)
It would be incredibly helpful if while bumping pages you attempted to either clean them up, or labelled them with appropriate tags. Also, is there a reason you aren't going strictly alphabetically and are jumping around? --Fannon 21:05, 6 April 2006 (PDT)
Alright...I guess haste does make waste, as they say. And as for the skipping around, I guess I'm just idiosyncratic (I'll try to stay alphabetical, though). --Emufarmers 22:01, 6 April 2006 (PDT)
You're still missing quite a few edits that need to be made to pages, such as extra linkification (woo for making up words!) or formatting and grammar fixes. While we want to get them bumped, we might as well take the time now to clean up the pages (or tag the really bad ones) to save further recent changes spam. --Fannon 22:15, 6 April 2006 (PDT)
I suppose you're right: If I just rush through them like I did before, all I'll end up with is a strained wrist. :P I've never been sure just how much linkification is in order, but I guess when you're bumpifying, you might as well goodify the pages completelyfull. (Making up words is fun!) --Emufarmers 22:25, 6 April 2006 (PDT)
Well, I'm adding the cleanupfor infobox dealies, because I'm just not awake enough at this point, but also because it isn't entirely crucial to the quality of the page. But I'm cleaning up everything else (for the most part). Bumping a few pages here and there for infoboxes is one thing, having to bump all of them to link a few words is another story. Also, mind doing Viridian? Viridian scares me. >.> --Fannon 22:30, 6 April 2006 (PDT)
Sure thing: I'm a Viridian sailor, so it'll be fine. (I don't have a Midnight pirate, so I'd have to make one to update things properly anyway.) Now ye rest yer silly head, lass. (Ye are a girl, right? With a name like Fannon, you never know. >.>) --Emufarmers 22:37, 6 April 2006 (PDT)

She's a girl. Although I'm sure she'd teach your silly head a thing or two, lad. *grins and winks* --Featherfin 07:03, 7 April 2006 (PDT)

Cat sorting tags

Just a quickie note, don't remove the sorting tags. Sorting tags are the ones that are put on articles that start with "The" "A" or where the name is all in capital letters. --Guppymomma 21:06, 6 April 2006 (PDT)

Ah, I was wondering what those were; I saw them next to the crew tag, and figured they were some part of it, since I couldn't see a visible effect on the page itself. Consider it done. :) --Emufarmers 22:01, 6 April 2006 (PDT)

Shoppes

You can find out where a shop is by using the "What links here" button. All shoppes have links to them from their island page. --Barrister 22:12, 19 April 2006 (PDT)

Hmm, alright. I'll keep that kind of deductive thinking (or is it inductive? Nobody really knows the difference) in mind in the future; it'll probably save me from asking a few questions at some point. Thank ye. :) --Emufarmers 23:16, 19 April 2006 (PDT)

Re: Bludgeons

I figured someone needed to do it since it had been so long since Rumble was released. As to the "minor" tag, it's one of my preferences since I rarely make substantial changes like that, and I simply forgot it was checked. Whoops? --Rixation 12:46, 20 April 2006 (PDT)

portrait template

Ahoy! You've been adding a second unused ocean to the parameters of the portrait-1 template. It's best just to omit that. Thanks. --Barrister 22:13, 29 April 2006 (PDT)

Sure thing: I'd just been copying the template from a page I remembered with the template (in this case, Jebus's). It doesn't really hurt to leave the extra ocean tag on, though, does it? And it makes it easier to add a new gallary when the time comes. --Emufarmers 11:49, 30 April 2006 (PDT)

Official documentation

Just FYI, player volunteer wiki admins are asked not to touch the Official namespace articles at all. Instead, we are supposed to just comment on the talk pages like any other players. You'll need to alter your candidacy. --Guppymomma 19:25, 30 April 2006 (PDT)

I was under the impression from this that minor edits for spelling and basic grammar were okay (I was looking at, for instance, Official:AboutGame#Documentation_and_FAQs, where the link is broken). Sorry if my candidacy was unclear on what I intended. (I get the message in terms of how any edits beyond that would be taken, and I'll amend the candidacy to reflect that.) --Emufarmers 19:41, 30 April 2006 (PDT)
I've actually never seen anything about it being okay to fix minor things. Perhaps this is an individual convo with an OM he had. That's why you never see other admins touching the Official documentation. I'll check for a reclarification though. --Guppymomma 19:55, 30 April 2006 (PDT)
I suppose not, but looking at the histories for the Official namespace pages, a fair number of them were edited by player Admins a couple months ago for tagging and/or linking. Maybe it was allowed then, but not now, or only allowed under specific circumstances, or maybe it just wasn't an issue at the time. Clarification on the matter would probably be a good thing. --Emufarmers 20:05, 30 April 2006 (PDT)
Not meaning to pick a fight here, but I think there were only a handful of edits before the Ringers made it absolutely clear we player-admins should not edit the Official pages. No exceptions. Just wanted that to be clear. --Barrister 23:34, 30 April 2006 (PDT)

Response to message

We had asked the developers about the editing of the Official pages, and were given the go-ahead to make minor corrections. --Thunderbird 16:45, 8 May 2006 (PDT)

Okily-dokily; that bit was just a week or so ago, and I haven't been privy to whatever conversations you've had since then. I'll be sure to let you know so you can fix it if I come across anything broken there. :) --Emufarmers 16:52, 8 May 2006 (PDT)

Image thingies

It's called copy/pasting code from another pirate article and just changing the pertinent bits. As I wasn't uploading the files, I didn't even think to look. --Fannon 16:50, 13 May 2006 (PDT)

Oh, I know: I just happened to notice it, so I thought I'd fill you in so it'd work properly the next time you copied from whatever your source was. :) --Emufarmers 16:58, 13 May 2006 (PDT)

Section redirects

Section redirects are impossible due to the way the wiki software works. The title of the page you opened is what's in the browser bar, not the one that you got redirected to. Without the # indicating the target, your browser will not move to the section in question. --Thunderbird 00:13, 14 May 2006 (PDT)

Hmm, it seems to only work when you actually click on the redirect from the page itself, so...Okies. :) --Emufarmers 00:38, 14 May 2006 (PDT)

Categories & Templates

Hoy there! Just a few quick words: - We're using a new usage paradigm... template:usage, to be specific. If you're editing templates for technical reasons, it'd be helpful if you could help set usage guidelines on them as well. Just remember to wrap the usage tag in <noinclude> tags! - Likewise, you can use <includeonly> on templates to ensure that it's only parsed when the template is included in a page... for example, if you want pages that bear the template to be in a category, but not the template itself, wrap the [[category]] in <includeonly>, and it does that for you.

Thanks for your help, in any event. :) --Ponytailguy 21:55, 20 May 2006 (PDT)

Yeah, I saw that: It's pretty neat. :) Were you asking me to add usage notes in regards to my category sorting of the inuse templates? Because the project one, which originally drew me there, was something you made, so I didn't think to usageify it. Surely your newfound admin powers will allow you to add usage notes merely by snapping your fingers? :P --Emufarmers 22:04, 20 May 2006 (PDT)

Warnings & Vandalism

I'm letting her get to three, just because this is a gray area. So far, by my count, she's scribbled twice and said things she could never get away with in-game once. I'm letting her go for a third so I'm sure I can justify her block if it falls to me. (This would be my first block ever... less than 48 hours after being thwapped with the powerstick, too, so I wanna make sure I don't booch it.) --Ponytailguy 22:39, 20 May 2006 (PDT)

Or Thunderbird can do it and take all the weight off my shoulders. Tee-hee. :) --Ponytailguy 22:41, 20 May 2006 (PDT)

Template:Usage

Thanks for your help in scaling template:usage into place :) After some discussion with Barrister, though, I've added a few more guidelines as to how, and when to use it. When you've got the time, can you take a look at template:usage before adding more? Thanks! --Ponytailguy 07:33, 22 May 2006 (PDT)

Alright. There weren't really any guidelines on exactly how to use it before, so I just winged it. :P And I fixed one of the dreaded it's/its errors in it; at least I'm good for something. ^_^ --Emufarmers 19:42, 22 May 2006 (PDT)

Thanks

I don't try to be in the buisness of adding random nonsense into the middle of other people's comments - thanks for catching that. :) --Zava 20:00, 29 May 2006 (PDT)

Name

PTG, Ponytailguy, Teeg, Peeteegee, and Mike are all acceptable. (Mike might lead to confusion, though, since I doubt I'm the only one around with that moniker.) --Ponytailguy 20:31, 1 June 2006 (PDT)

Consistency being what it is, and for the sake of simplicity, which would you prefer? --Emufarmers 20:33, 1 June 2006 (PDT)

Comment on the voting page

Just FYI, your comment is screwing up the number counts. You might want to start a section at the bottom of the page for comments instead or something. I also suspect that they really meant pirate page instead of user page. --Guppymomma 21:20, 3 June 2006 (PDT)

Alright, I'll fix that; it's possible he or she might have meant pirate pages, but other people would read it as it is written, and I don't want people to be influenced by thinking that their user pages are going to be deleted. --Emufarmers 21:23, 3 June 2006 (PDT)

Edit summaries

Please don't use edit summaries as a spot to voice snarky comments about other users' mistakes. Thanks. --Guppymomma 20:24, 4 June 2006 (PDT)

My bad; didn't mean for it to be that snarky. (Fine line between a lighthearted jab and an attack; I'll tread more carefully.) --Emufarmers 20:31, 4 June 2006 (PDT)

vote commentary by name

It's probably a good idea to refer to vote comments by name in your own vote commentary. If somebody later changes their vote (as I did earlier), it will change the numbering of all the votes that follow it.--Fiddler 20:44, 4 June 2006 (PDT)

Good point. Sagacious also referred to a vote by number: Should I change that for him, or leave it to him to fix? --Emufarmers 20:48, 4 June 2006 (PDT)

redirects

If you redirect to a disambig page, you need to use {{R to disambiguation page}}. Thanks. --Barrister 17:21, 14 June 2006 (PDT)

Alright. Should {{R from shortcut}} be included as well, since it really is that too, or do we want to stick with just one redirect reason per redirect? (I've always included all that apply, but I don't really know what others do on this.) --Emufarmers 17:24, 14 June 2006 (PDT)
Eh, more than one redirect reason seems like overkill, but feel free. --Barrister 17:29, 14 June 2006 (PDT)
Oop, I just realized: I meant to say {{R from alternate name}}. R from shortcut is only for redirects to YPPedia namespace pages, right?...Or is that just a part of the redirect policy left over from what was grabbed from Wikipedia? --Emufarmers 17:36, 14 June 2006 (PDT)

Avatars

I deleted the files. I didn't realize you hadn't fixed the references to them. Please update Avatar artists directory. --Barrister 21:25, 15 June 2006 (PDT)

Information re-adding

If you're going to re-add information that was reverted out from an article, it might be handy to ensure that said information is actually correct. In the case of rum sickness, it was not (the indestructible block results from damage, not rumsickness). I corrected the information in the article. --Thunderbird 23:55, 15 June 2006 (PDT)

Ah, alright: Barrister had used rollback, but I wasn't sure if it was due to the actual information, or just to the way it was added; I was sure that rum sickness affected rumble somehow, though, and I didn't want to leave the article without a reference to that...I'll just post on the talk page next time I'm not sure. (This'd probably also be a good example of why it's better not to use the rollback tool except when the reason is obvious, I suppose.) --Emufarmers 00:10, 16 June 2006 (PDT)
Actually, it's a reason to use the talk page. Generally if the added information just needs cleanup, the administrator will clean it up or tag the article asking for cleanup. --Guppymomma 08:09, 16 June 2006 (PDT)

Moving articles

In the future, if it's a new substantial article that's being discussed a lot on the forums & such, please make sure to not immediately move it & simply participate in the discussion. If you do move something being discussed on the forums, it is best to A.) leave the redirect there and B.) make sure to notify people in that thread so they can change the links in their posts/signatures. Barrister has already posted & reredirected the page. --Guppymomma 07:42, 17 June 2006 (PDT)

Re: Pronunciation

I prefer "yay-ten," but it doesn't really matter. :) --Yaten talk 08:09, 21 June 2006 (PDT)

capital letters for user names in art tags

Because of the way MediaWiki handles capital and lowercase letters, you need to capitalize all usernames in the fanart, contestentry, and avatar image tags. By using a lowercase "h" the BoNB image can now be found here, after the Z, rather than here, after the H.--Fiddler 17:52, 22 June 2006 (PDT)

Userpage

I'm sorry, I wasn't aware that I was expected to justify changes to my personal userpage to nonadministrators for no reason other than "curiosity". Entirely my fault.

If you must know, I accidentally made some edits on my main account, and requested that the closest administrator (PTG was the first alphabetically logged onto Midnight at that point) delete the pages so I could bury the history.--Agon 09:23, 10 July 2006 (PDT)

Agon's User: page

There's no need for you to pry into the whys and wherefores of any user's User: page. A user's page is their own domain and any administrative actions taken upon that page are a private matter between the user and the administrator. If you have an issue with the way the deletion was handled, you should take it up with the administrator in question.--Fiddler 22:25, 10 July 2006 (PDT)

Taking it Further

This is going to be terse because I'm on a god-awful dialup connection that ties up grandma's phone lines.

Deletion or moving or whatever else of a userpage is not "an administrative action", and should not be presented as such in attempts to justify you seeking information that, quite clearly, people do not want shared. The minimum amount of information you, as a user (and, really, I as an administrator, or Eurydice as an OceanMaster, or whoever else wants to ask) is entitled to about a userpage is simple: precisely none.

I find your invention of policy ("However, deletions of userpages are an administrative action, and usually include at least "requested by user" in the deletion description") to be quite distressing. Please stop doing that. Thank you. --Ponytailguy 09:19, 11 July 2006 (PDT)

Art category

The top level Art category shoudl be used sparingly, mostly for main namespace articles dealing with art subjects and for image categories. As for Pirate Pantheon and the like, a good idea would be to create a new sub-category (Fiction or something similar) and place the associated game categories (Category:Pirate Pantheon) within that. Let me think on it overnight; my sincere hope is that the Art: namespace will start seeing more use, and we want whatever system we devise to be flexible for future additions.--Fiddler 22:42, 10 July 2006 (PDT)

Stub types

Thanks for the heads up, I had no idea. *dies of shame* Will be more conscientious in future! ;) --Lizzie 13:22, 17 July 2006 (PDT)

Swabbies

Sorry to swoop in on your swabbie edit. There does seem to be a difference between the various adjective lists for swabbies, navy, skellies, bks, brigands, etc. --Barrister 00:58, 18 July 2006 (PDT)

Tag, you're it!

You created the disambig page for stall. That means you get to resolve all the things that point to it. ;-) --Barrister 00:59, 20 July 2006 (PDT)

:O There are...A lot of things that point to it...u giv bot pls? (You should probably use bot mode for all those island disambig changes, although I suppose it's too late now.) --Emufarmers 01:01, 20 July 2006 (PDT)
Poke. I'd appreciate if you could work on this a little. There are just over 100 links to stall that should be fixed. That's more than 1/3 of the entries in Special:Disambiguations. Thanks! And don't worry about "bot"ting it. It's not a big deal. --Barrister 00:53, 24 July 2006 (PDT)
Saw you start in on these. Got bored, did some for you. Figured you probably wouldn't mind. ;) --AtteSmythe 23:33, 25 July 2006 (PDT)
I'll find it in my heart to forgive you. :P --Emufarmers 21:59, 26 July 2006 (PDT)

Speaking of fixing links

Please correct the links to a page whenever you convert pages into redirects. Thanks! --Guppymomma 21:29, 25 July 2006 (PDT)
