Miscellaneous Trophies

There are two sets of Miscellaneous Trophies on the page; why are they different and should they be combined? --Katyland 11:16, 8 October 2009 (PDT)

I was wondering that too, but the ones are currently available misc trophies and the others are historical (not available anymore). For example the Seal o' Piracy: October 2009 and the One-Eyed Maple will be moved to historical misc trophies in september. (Ooops, the Seal o' Piracy: October 2009 is in the historical category already, well not a biggy...) --Kamuflaro 19:51, 8 October 2009 (UTC)
Yep, basicly the one under the Historical, are Misc that are not avalible, the normal misc, are ones currently avalible... or Misc that will stay there until Dev's turn them off. Well, thats a guess but it seems right? --Lcawte 20:08, 8 October 2009 (UTC)
Maybe they should be re-labeled with "no longer available"? On the German trophy page they are all together. --Katyland 14:03, 8 October 2009 (PDT)
Never mind. They are listed under historic trohpies, that heading just kinda gets lost to me as I scroll. --Katyland 14:05, 8 October 2009 (PDT)

Colouring cells

Some of the new trophies include a bit of the background colour on them around shiny parts. I propose colouring those trophy cells in, possibly extending this to all trophies, not just ones that are not fully transparent.

Broad Trophy-Expert Bilger.png Trophy-Expert Carpenter.png Trophy-Expert Navigator.png Trophy-Expert Gunner.png Trophy-Expert Sailor.png Trophy-Expert Treasure Hauler.png Trophy-Expert Battle Navigator.png Trophy-Expert Swordfighter.png Trophy-Expert Rumbler.png

--Sagacious (talk) 17:17, 18 June 2008 (PDT)

Aye, I noticed that. The patches of background colour are because the shiny parts actually make the background slightly lighter. I think if you're going to colour some of the cells, you should colour all of them - possibly this calls for some sort of sandbox mock-up so we can see how it looks. (Another thought is to simply touch up the images, but I don't think that would look too good.) --Belthazar451 18:05, 18 June 2008 (PDT)
It would certainly make everything, specially the new trophies, neater. I support the idea. --Cecidrake 18:16, 18 June 2008 (PDT)
First mock. The borders have been thinned and coloured as they are on trophy pages. I was thinking of making the labels blue like trophy titles but this may look strange against wikilinks and it also doesn't apply to that many titles. I also think the titles look OK with a coloured background. --Sagacious (talk) 19:00, 18 June 2008 (PDT)
Looks pretty good. Brings them out somewhat, too. =) On a vaguely-related note, since we're already mucking about with formatting, why are the sections on the trophies page in that particular order? And since the Ultimate Piracy/Carousing/Crafting trophies are (probably) alone in their columns, is it worth simply lopping them off and sticking them up with the Ultimate of Ultimates trophy? --Belthazar451 19:04, 18 June 2008 (PDT)
I've added something like this to the mock. It does seem to make more sense :-) --Sagacious (talk) 19:33, 18 June 2008 (PDT)

Just wanted to draw attention to my other proposed change - the arrangement of the first two trophies on the page. The code doesn't look great but the display seems a lot better to me--Sagacious (talk) 19:14, 18 June 2008 (PDT)

I'm not so sure about that. The trophy boxes are different widths (though I've no idea why), which looks a bit... untidy. Maybe the whole thing should be contained in one table. --Belthazar451 19:46, 18 June 2008 (PDT)
Sagacious, make sure the tables are easy to edit. --Barrister 20:49, 18 June 2008 (PDT)
Why are Sagacious' suggested changes any easier or harder than what's up there now? Are you suggesting we just make the "style" section of the table header into a template, and just call the template instead? --Belthazar451 20:55, 18 June 2008 (PDT)
I've tried to improve the readability of the tables by reducing the table starter to a template. --Sagacious (talk) 10:47, 25 June 2008 (PDT)
Finally had a chance to give the pages a good comparison. I really wasn't sure I liked the background on the trophies at first but it is starting to grow on me, I think.
Some specifics. I prefer the original layout of the Blockade trophies (Battered Hat and Weathered Helm) on the trophy page. I also prefer the width of the Duty Puzzle Maneuvers on the trophy page; the mock up seems too compressed there. I'm undecided about the Ultimate trophies but leaning more towards the current version rather then the mock up. Whether we go with these backgrounds or not, using the template for the table certainly cleans up the coding on the page, and I always like that. That being said, I think a more appropriate name for the entries would be {{Trophy entry|name=Battered Hat}}. -- Cedarwings (talk) 13:17, 25 June 2008 (PDT)

I'm curious as to what ever came of this idea. Only it's been almost six months. Is Sagacious still a regular visitor, or should I just implement it myself? We seemed to be pretty much in agreement that it was a good idea back in June. --Belthazar451 00:51, 19 December 2008 (UTC)

I'm not too involved in trophies, so first question would be whether Cedarwings' concerns were addressed? I agree with Barrister that the implementation should be "hidden" in the template or something where editing of the page remains easier on the eyes without giant added blobs of text for every single cell or whatnot. Do we need a new mockup or anything (just thinking of changes the page has undergone in the past 6 months)? I'll also toss in my opinion that coloring the cells would be nice since that's how they're always seen. --Guppymomma 14:50, 19 December 2008 (UTC)

Enlightened Eradicator

On the page it says that it can be achieved after 50 winning frays. That is not true. It is 25 winning frays. I kept track of my CI trips where I got to the frays and it is 25. I haven't edited it yet because I need to confirm with one or two people. ~Polariss

Further discussion of this in the Trophy Speculation and Discussion thread please --Alfwyn 22:21, 1 January 2009 (UTC)
I have to agree that the criteria be removed as I have the trophy yet I know I havent participated in 50 frays yet. I imagine the number is closer to 20 or 25.-- Haywoodx(t/c) 02:50, 7 January 2009 (UTC)
I count forty-eight winning CI frays between when I got the Cultist Crusher and when I got the Elightened Eradicator, but that includes a few ship-board frays. I very very much doubt I had twenty-something ship-board frays. One of us has to have miscounted quite badly, and I'm pretty sure it ain't me. --Belthazar451 05:15, 7 January 2009 (UTC)

Broken table formating

On the Atlantis and CI related trophy tables the alignments of some cells content is broken, reason is because text in other cells expands the boundries. This is an internet explorer issue only - Does not happen with my firefox. The texts in question seem to be "Unknown number of sunken Archelon" or relatives. I suggest leaving the silly ie its will and force a linebreak. -- Kamuflaro 01:34, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

Explicitely specifying the width for every cell fixes it for IE (and should do no harm since it is just redundant). Where to force the line breaks would probably be font size dependent. --Alfwyn 13:03, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

CI foraging trophies

The three foraging trophies (Cursed Forager, Hexed Forager, Enlightened Forager) are clearly for foraging in CI. They could either be awarded from left to right for a number of chests hauled (without chest size conditions) or they could be awarded for a certain number of the chests specified in the image (small, medium, large). Has anyone managed to figure out which of these it is? I can only speculate because I haven't gotten anything beyond the first one. --Moonfish1985 12:10, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

The trophy speculation thread is the place for... well.. trophy speculation. =) Just to summarise, though, we're quite certain they're for foraging. We're also pretty sure the Cursed Forager is for 100 points (where a BB is worth 1, a FJ 2 and a CC 3), but haven't worked out how many is required for the other two. --Belthazar451 12:25, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

Proposed Cursed Isles section mockup

I noticed today that the text for this section has recently been edited a couple times, but still seemed a bit unclear, so I took it upon myself to attempt to clarify what was already there. I believe the language I used for Vargas and frays is helpful and appropriate. So I think that should remain as it is.
The mockup I link to here adds information about homunculi. I would like other opinions before adding it to the saved version of the page. Is it helpful? Or is it possibly irrelevant or unnecessary? Or even simply overkill? Cursed Isles Trophies Mockup
--Entharion 11:10, 28 July 2009 (UTC)

I think the explanation of frays on this page should be kept to a minimum, the Cursed Isles page should have the detailled description of frays. --Alfwyn 17:08, 31 July 2009 (UTC)
I agree with Alfwyn. Personally, I think the line, "Frays alternate rumble/swordfight/rumble etc." should be removed from the trophy page. The trophies have nothing to do with this aspect of the frays. -- Cedarwings (talk) 18:13, 31 July 2009 (UTC)

Bellator's bane

I just got it from the crew winning a fray...that I wasn't even involved in. Perhaps that little tidbit should be added? Bassgoonist 18:51, 1 August 2009 (UTC)

I confirm this, it's happened to me too.--Plng 17:24, 11 August 2009 (UTC)
Please bring up issues like this in the thread mentioned at the top of the page, you will reach a larger audience there. --Alfwyn 17:27, 11 August 2009 (UTC)

Sea Legs

After today's update, I got a trophy called "Sea Legs" and so did my hearties. Anyone have any idea what this is?

-Scurvyskull on Cobalt

Yes. Trophy Speculation and Discussion thread. --Belthazar451 23:08, 15 September 2009 (UTC)

I wonder if it maybe has something to do with logging off. I got off my ship and logged off, then when I logged back on I got it. Maybe like if the officer of the ship (which was me) logs off before anyone else? I don't know.

Use the Trophy Speculation and Discussion thread for trophy... uh... speculation and discussion, please. --Belthazar451 04:57, 16 September 2009 (UTC)

Seals

The November seal is already listed under historical trophies. That's not quite accurate. --Katyland 20:06, 2 November 2009 (PDT)

Yeah, we know. It's the lazy option. =) --Belthazar451 07:37, 3 November 2009 (UTC)

Autumn Seal

This trophy looks to be awarded to pirates having completed the "Fall" related Trophies. Yohococo of Sage has the August, September, and Novemeber but not the October Trophy, and was not awarded this trophy.

Imperial Outposts

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but it appears to me as though the Imperial Outposts are simply an extra type of expedition, except only available from an Attraction. As such, I would think these trophies belong in the Expedition section, rather than having their own section. Please discuss (inlcuding bashing me if needed). Jlh0605 22:26, 20 November 2009 (UTC)

I'd say you're probably right. I gave them their own section before I actually tried one for myself, but now that I've actually done it, it's pretty clear they're handled exactly like other expeditions, save that they have actual maps. I guess we can expect a 1-10-50-X trophy succession for this as well, then. --Belthazar451 22:50, 20 November 2009 (UTC)
I would suspect that is the way it will go...... Jlh0605 19:38, 23 November 2009 (UTC)

Miscellaneous trophies sections

Firstly, shouldn't the antediluvian conch be moved over to the historical miscellaneous section, seeing as how the conchs were only given out for a certain period of time years ago? Or is it kept there because someone may have not crushed theirs yet? Secondly, in historical miscellaneous section, shouldn't there be a completely different section on collecting promotion items?

Fewmenleft 05:58, 1 May 2010 (UTC)

Yes there are still some unopened conchs. (I have one.) So, it's still possible to gain the conch trophy, even though it's extremely rare. As for your second question, I don't really have a strong opinion. Do you have a proposal for how to organize them? Which trophies would you consider promotional?

"Current" heading

I think it may be warranted to remove the current template from the trophies related to release 2011-02-22. Thoughts? Jlh0605 01:38, 8 March 2011 (UTC)

We usually leave the current template up for about a month, especially for trophies. New trophies are still being discovered, and their triggers are still being investigated. --Barrister 00:33, 9 March 2011 (UTC)

Steam trophies

I'm pondering: Do we want to mark the trophies that are achievements on Steam? How? Do we care about Steam on this wiki? Are the trophies that aren't achievements still winnable for Steam pirates? --Belthazar451 19:03, 29 October 2011 (PDT)

Steam provides an easy link to log on (username and password are saved with the client), and achievements. Otherwise, a pirate is a pirate regardless of which client they are running (I myself have picked up the first werewolf trophy and the October Seal o Piracy since I've been using Steam to log in). The bigger question: Some of the Steam achievements contradict information here. Best example I can think of is the Diamond Crab. Page says 15,000 while Steam achievement says 20,000. --Thunderbird 12:04, 30 October 2011 (PDT)
The Steam achievement is the correct one - either the trophies were changed when they were added to Steam (as seems to have happened to the CI forage trophies) or our count was incorrect all along, but since it was Hermes who added the Steam values to the wiki, he's basically confirmed that's what the triggers are now for everyone. Evidently he missed some, though. In any case, is it still worth marking trophies as being Steam achievements? --Belthazar451 13:57, 30 October 2011 (PDT)
I tend to view the Steam requirements as the ones more likely to be correct and probably this page should use them. But there is still the possibility that they are in error, so verifying the requirements ingame has still some value. On the marking matter, if it can be done in some fairly unobtrusive way, I'm in favor of it. We should care about Steam (as far as it is YPP related). --Alfwyn 05:45, 31 October 2011 (PDT)

Old conversation but the steam trophies are still not marked. This is something we can reference and show whether the information comes from the steam achievement or from observation. Discordance 17:15, 13 August 2012 (PDT)

The question is how would we want to add that information. The easiest way might be footnotes, à la source citations. (If we wanted to get really fancy, we might be able to cook up a template just for this purpose, with some sort of little identification icon.) Show/Hide is also an option, but it doesn't work in the YPPedia's default skin, so. Either option would probably be a bit of a clunky addition to the layout, so we'd want to give a fair bit of thought to ways to mitigate that. Alternately, we could just have a second, dedicated page for Steam achievements. We've never really bothered to note which triggers were player observed and which were "word of god," before, and I'm not convinced that we need to start now. If a trigger is unknown or under debate, it's marked as such; if a trigger is known, it doesn't really matter how we know it. (Well, it matters, but not so much for the user-facing list page.) --Ladodal 18:57, 13 August 2012 (PDT)
It's not the trigger we'd be marking, but the trophy-as-Steam-achievement. My main thought for marking them would be some sort of little tiny icon, but that could get a little ugly in sections where every trophy is a Steam achievement. --Belthazar451 04:57, 14 August 2012 (PDT)
Diamond crab is still at odds with the description from steam 15,000/20,000. And not marked for that. Discordance 06:01, 14 August 2012 (PDT)
Oh, I knew we'd be marking the trophy as a Steam achievement, I was just trying to respond to the two issues brought forth at once, on too little caffeine. I really must stop doing that, it never ends well for me. At any rate, my first thought for an icon was a wee little (10px by 10px?) Steam logo, probably in black and bronze. I then immediately disregarded that as being trademark-infringey. But now I'm having second thoughts on my second thought; if it's that small (and probably rather stylized out of necessity) it might be okay. Alternately... a gear or something? (The talk of triggers was related to the question of whether we wanted this icon to display the achievement criteria and/or a note pertaining to the fact that the exact achievement criteria are known to us thanks to Steam. (I think? I have... very little idea as to how Steam works. I have Steam, because of a Free Portal promotion, and I added PP to it... but then never played that way, because I saw no point to it, and apparently there were Java conflicts or something. Not sure I've ever actually used Steam for anything, in the year I've had it.))
What I was getting at there was that if we need to display additional information for a trophy along with this icon, we could probably create an alternate version of the wiki Citation Reference code that would display the icon, and add a list of page anchor footnotes. Maybe. --Ladodal 10:25, 14 August 2012 (PDT)
Ladodal-trophy-mockup.png
Is this basically what we're all thinking of? (As a general concept, not the specific art.) --Ladodal 11:00, 14 August 2012 (PDT)

Pillaging ship trophies

Something doesn't look right about the bottom of the table underneath the Grand Frigate trophies...but I can't figure out what. --Thunderbird 20:06, 6 March 2012 (PST)

It looks fine to me. You got a hint on what's wrong with it? --Belthazar451 21:03, 6 March 2012 (PST)
Not enough "white space" before the next section? If so, that's because this table does not have a "footnote" (to trigger just enough white space), like the other tables have.
Franklincain 09:31, 30 May 2012 (PDT)

> Diamond Xebec has been won by Gulfstream on Aug 19, 2017 5:43:20 AM PDT --Deltaruler

Added. Thanks. :) --Budclare2 06:27, 20 August 2017 (UTC)

(Pillaging) why is "BK" subset of "Expedition" ??

methinks this was a goof.  ;-) the Brigand King trophies should be their own subset of Pillaging, instead of a sub-subset (Pillaging -> Expedition -> BK) which is what it shows currently. but before I just changed that, wanted to get confirmation first...

-- Franklincain 08:34, 28 May 2012 (PDT)

The status quo makes sense to me. Brigand King compasses are expeditions purchased at the Explorers' hall. Also, the BK table is sufficiently large to warrant its own subsection of Expeditions rather than lumping it in the same table with the rest of the expeditions. Keep it. Chupchup 10:41, 28 May 2012 (PDT)
Yeah it's clunky, but they're technically expeditions, so probably shouldn't be changed. --Fannon 11:53, 28 May 2012 (PDT)
OK, forgot about the compasses; good catch. however, from what I understand, can we not get these BK trophies from "basic" pillaging also? if so, then these would not be "just" expedition trophies. the point I was trying to make was that these should be their own sub-category of Pillaging Trophy instead of a sub-SUB-category; hope I made that clear. still, if the consensus is to leave well enough alone, so be it.  ;-) thanks!
Franklincain 08:01, 29 May 2012 (PDT)
No, they have completely removed the ability to encounter Brigand Kings without using the compasses. Chupchup 08:05, 29 May 2012 (PDT)
?!?!?...source, plz. if confirmed, that ticks me off >:-P as I want to eventually get some BK trophies (and trinkets). thnx... -- Franklincain 11:21, 29 May 2012 (PDT)
Random encounters got removed long ago, though I'm fairly certain you can still "receive word" by defeating another ship, and get an expedition same as a Merchant Hunt. Either way, it was long enough ago that it ought to be assumed knowledge by now (or what I mean to say is, long enough ago that it's difficult to find citations). Um. BK expeditions were added here. Compasses were added here. Trophies were added here - after they were expeditionified. Can't seem to find an official release note regarding the removal of random encounters, but there's this. On a side note, the how-to-find-a-BK section on the BK article badly needs to be rewritten - it currently says "Encountering a Brigand King ship on the open ocean will happen much as it does now", a ridiculously non-sensical phrase that appears to have been there already in June 2007. That was five years ago. --Belthazar451 13:19, 29 May 2012 (PDT)
When the change happened two years ago (released to the main oceans on 2010-05-18), this thread popped up, which has a first response from Hermes confirming the change here. --Thunderbird 13:56, 29 May 2012 (PDT)

(Pillaging) switch "Other" with "Expedition" (and "BK") ??

Any category named "Other" should be the last one listed. As such, the Pillaging category of "Other Pillage Trophies" should therefore be filed last, that is *after* the Pillaging category of "Expeditions" (and its sub-category of "Brigand Kings").

Thoughts? -- Franklincain 09:28, 30 May 2012 (PDT)

My thoughts: I did actually think things through back when I first made that particular layout. I remember being specifically concerned that it seemed to make more sense to put the Other section not at the end, but I don't actually recall exactly what I was thinking at the time. I think I decided that the trophies in the expeditions section were dissimilar enough to the other pillaging trophies that they shouldn't be breaking things up in the middle, but not so dissimilar that they needed their own section. Or somesuch like that. --Belthazar451 13:13, 30 May 2012 (PDT)

use "Christmas" instead of "holiday"?

For the various Christmas-season competitions (2012; 2011; 2010; 2009; 2008; 2007), since it is obvious the holiday in question is Christmas, is there any reason not to change these section titles to use (Upper-case "C") "Christmas" instead of (Lower-case "H") "holiday"? Just wanted to check first. Thanks. -- Franklincain (t/c) 09:14, 25 June 2013 (PDT)

(Addendum): Since the grand table of Competition trophies at the beginning of the section shows all these holidays (and the links thereto) as using "Holiday" (upper-case in this case), I think that if we keep the word "holiday" in the section headers, we should capitalize them (to be consistent all the way around). -- Franklincain (t/c) 09:22, 25 June 2013 (PDT)

Game calls them "holiday". "Holiday" is not a proper noun. It might be "obviously" referring to Christmas, but it's also a politically-correct term used to refer to several holidays that occur at around the same time, including Hanukkah. So... yeah. --Belthazar451 14:24, 25 June 2013 (PDT)

Swinging Banana trophy

Trophy needs adding, as seen here. Gained by getting a banana box in may, 2015. Krystals91 19:06, 23 May 2015 (PDT)

Conqueror reputation

It is very interesting that Conqueror reputation could be earned by losing frays to e.g. skellies. release 2009-10-06 - release notes, developer-supplied, specify that you must defeat the frays. So perhaps this requires some discussion and experimentation. Chupchup 08:12, 17 July 2018 (UTC)

It is also interesting that previous Seals did not specify which activities could count, and this seems to be the better approach, given that reputation is linked. Chupchup 08:14, 17 July 2018 (UTC)

Silver Sigil - Duplicate trophy names

The Silver Sigil trophy in the 2018 holiday shares its name with the Slver Sigil trophy from the Madam Brigand King trophy. How do we ago about putting that in the wiki's system? I currently just put a 2 at the end of the trophy name.--captainmra 15:54, 16 December 2018 (UTC)

We can try petitioning to get the trophy name changed. If that doesn't work, maybe "Silver Sigil (2018)"? Or at least "Silver Sigil (2)". Or maybe something sneaky like "Silver Sigil."? "Silver Sigil_"? Bah. :( --Budclare2 20:51, 16 December 2018 (UTC)

Trophy thread unavailable

With the current state of the forums, the trophy speculation thread is not currently available. Should we put a block on adding anything that's not blindingly obvious (ie, the promotion trophies)? --Thunderbird (talk) 14:00, 12 May 2022 (UTC)

Given that it is basically already covered by YPPedia:Policies and guidelines, yes? I wouldn't actively go out of my way to stop people adding to this, there's plenty of Discord servers and other things where people could determine these requirements collaboratively, although, such discussions could take place on this talk page as well. --Lcawte (talk) 16:14, 12 May 2022 (UTC)

Diamond Dark-flier

I've uploaded the image of this trophy as seen here Soapsuds of the Emerald Ocean's trophy page

Is it safe to assume it's the next in the series of: Bronze Bloodsucker -> Silver Strigoi -> Golden Gloom-walker Found under Vampirate expeditions?

If so, should we add it with: "Unknown number of expeditions completed"? --Nomis (talk) 04:04, 24 October 2022 (UTC)

Trophy speculation location

Since the speculation thread is no longer available due to loss of the forums, do we need a new location? My thoughts on the matter would be to set up a page group here, with the following:

Trophy/Speculation parent page, with a list of trophies that are being discussed. Each individual trophy would have a subpage here, such as Trophy/Speculation/Jinxed Idol.

This setup would also have the advantage of grouping all discussion for each trophy together, something we didn't really have with the speculation threads. (I never looked at those threads though, so I don't know how much of an issue this was) --Thunderbird (talk) 22:35, 18 November 2023 (UTC)
