Ship Renaming Rules
Standard
- The ship rename follows the "Adjective Fish" format.
- The adjective must be defined as such on dictionary.com.
- The fish must be a one or two word fish name found on fishbase.org.
Custom
- All non-standard renames are "custom renames".
- You cannot get a discount for only renaming half of the existing ship name.
- Allowed names may have up to three words in them, all of which must be real words in English as defined on dictionary.com.
- Proper nouns without another common definition may be denied.
- Possessive names such as Bow's Ship will not be allowed.
- Any rename for a famous fictional or historical ship may be allowed as a custom name such as Queen Anne's Revenge.
Exceptions
- Any rename deemed to be inappropriate by an Ocean Master will be denied.
- Should a rename be found to be inappropriate after the change, it will be renamed again to another name of the same cost.
- No renames may start with an article (for example, "The", "A").
- Vessels will not be renamed to any existing ship name.
- Exceptionally difficult-to-spell names may be denied.
- Numerals and Roman numerals may not be included in renames.
How to Request a Rename
- Only captains may use their crew's shanghai points. If the crew has no captain, please name a person who has authorization to use your shanghai Points in your crew's private statement.
- Shanghai points cannot be traded between crews and may only used for renames.
- Shanghai points can only come from up to two crews per rename.
- Captains may grant permission by posting in their private crew statement:
- the name of the player who has permission to use the shanghai points
- the specific number of shanghais that may be used by this person
- Players who have permission to use shanghai points must use them all at the same time.
- Petitions for renames must have the following information:
- Proposed ship name
- Current ship name
- Size of vessel
- Location of vessel
- Source of the shanghai points if you are not a captain
- Do not shop around to different Ocean Masters if your rename has been denied. A rename denial from one Ocean Master is final.
- The revisions to the policy mean that some previous names that were granted are no longer valid or the cost for them may have been changed. No retroactive renames will be granted in such cases.
Crew Renames
Crew names must be between 2 and 24 characters long.
- Full: 2 shanghai points
- Partial (Minor change): 1 shanghai point
Flag Renames
- Full: 200,000 Pieces of Eight
- Partial (Minor change): 100,000 Pieces of Eight
Building Renames
- 75,000 Pieces of Eight
- Limitations are the same as for custom ship names, except articles may be used.
- Only the owner of a shoppe can change the name.
- Building names cannot exceed 34 characters in length.
- Corrections in spelling and capitalization are free
- See the Building Naming Policy for more information on building names.
What to do to rename your building:
- Make sure that the poe to rename your building is on your pirate.
- Submit a petition including:
- the location of the building which you want to rename
- the current name of the building
- the name you wish to change it to
Familiar Recoloring
- 200,000 Pieces of Eight
- Tan and white familiars may not be recolored.
- Familiars may not be recolored to solid white or solid black.
- Only monkeys, parrots and octopi may be recolored.
- Atlantean Blue, Indigo, Royal Blue and other seasonal, limited edition colors (TBA) are not valid familiar recoloring options. If any of those colors are ever released as a standard color in the shoppes we will consider making it available for recoloring.
What to do to recolor your familiar:
- Make sure that both your familiar and the poe to recolor it are on your pirate.
- Submit a petition indicating:
- The familiar which you want to recolor (include their name if they have one!)
- The current familiar color
- The color you wish to change it to, specify head/body color for a parrot
- Wait! The Oceanmaster onduty will take care of the recolor as soon as they can.

Island Transfers
Island Transfer Pricing:
- Outpost: 50,000 Pieces of Eight
- Medium Island: 150,000 Pieces of Eight
- Large Island: 250,000 Pieces of Eight
Island Transfer Procedure and Requirements:
- Notice must be given in the Piratical Parley and Politics forum for your ocean at least a week in advance (so by the end of Monday, Pirate Time the week before.) Please specify what island is going to be transferred and what flag it will be transferred to.
- A petition to transfer the island should be made before the end of Monday the following week and left open until the transfer is done. Please include a link to the original Parley post as well as the flag who will be taking over the island and any other information you deem necessary. Transfers should only be happening on Mondays or Tuesday to give everyone a chance to prepare for any blockades on the weekend.
- The fee should be left in your pirate's booty. Make sure you confirm the amount and pirate who is holding the poe when you petition.
- At the time of the transfer, the flag who will be taking over the island must have the required fame for owning an island of that size.
Island Transfer Refusals
- The receiving flag may refuse an island transfer by posting in the island transfer thread and submitting a petition before the island transfer is completed. (please link to post)
Wager Bans
Oceanmasters are able to ban accounts from any form of wagering. However, this is complete, and permanent. It will not be reversed if you later change your mind, and it will block all wagers - challenges with just a tan bandana at stake, tournaments with an entry fee, and so on.
If you're certain that this is the step you wish to take, and that you cannot manage to control this with willpower, please petition asking for this to be activated for your account.
Event Blockades on Ringer Islands
You can schedule event blockades by request on any Ringer or Event owned island. In order to request this, you must petition at least 24 hours before your event is set to start and include a link to the forum post detailing your event. If the event blockade will overlap the normal blockade period you will need an additional 2 weeks notice.
Scheduling:
- Blockades will be set in the order that they are petitioned, not posted. So just because you post does not automatically save the date for your blockade.
- Once an event is scheduled it will not be changed and no other events will be scheduled until after that event is complete. Please wait until the current event is over at an island before submitting your petition.
- Remember that event blockades cannot be scheduled more than a month in advance.
- Please note that official Ringer sponsored events will take precedence over any other event blockades that are planned or scheduled. We will try to ensure that Ringer events are posted and scheduled in advance to avoid conflicts.
Your event post should be made in the appropriate ocean events thread and include:
- Location
- Date
- Time
- Blockade settings
- Sinking: (Sinking/No Sinking/No Sinking No Removal)
- Cannons Ineffective: (yes/no)
- Ignore Alliances: (yes/no)
- Use Maneuvers: (yes/no)
- Rounds: (1-7)
- Obstacles: (Normal/Sparse/Dense/Rocky/Turbulent/Windy)
- Ship Types: (All/List of those allowed)
- Prizes, details or anything else relevant to your event.
