Game concept

Slide pieces around to create patterns and make them into cloth objects.

Objective

Fill in the task bar with 10 completed objects.

Gameplay

A player begins with a black-and-white grid with lettered pieces, an imagery checklist below that, and a progress bar below that. Also, there will be a move counter, a "Center" button, and a "Shape" button on the top.

To play, a player must click on arrows on the left and top of the grid to move the lettered pieces together. A piece might look like this:

After the move counter counts down to zero, all patterns made (by creating a lettered circuit) enlarge and a queue appears.

The screen changes to have a pattern queue on top, one of the patterns in the center, the imagery checklist with the grid crossed off, and the progress bar below that.

With the cloth pattern in the center, a player must then place a pair of scissors moving at the starting rate of the level. Afterwards, he/she must place red bouncing blocks and gray guiding walls to make the scissors cut along the pattern and prepare the cloth for embroidery. After it is cut out, the the excess cloth falls away and you move on.

The screen changes to have a queue on top, the cut-out pattern in the center, the imagery checklist with the shape crossed off and the parchment opened to reveal a pattern, and the progress bar below that.

With the shape of cloth, a player must once again place red bouncing blocks and gray guiding blocks to make a needle follow the parchment's pattern without having the pattern enlarge. After one minute, the pattern grows, the game checks how the player did and stores the score away for later use, the next pattern grows to fit the area, and the progress bar gets one-tenth full. The game then repeats the scissors-embroidery steps until all patterns are gone from the queue. Then, if the progress bar isn't full, it heads back to the conveyor belt. Otherwise it gives the player a score and the game ends.

Decisions required to be made at some point or another:

  • Should I go for the bonus and risk screwing up the pattern
  • Should I start on the flat line or should I start near the curve and set up my time longer
  • Which part of the embroidery should I start on

CONTROLS

Conveyor belt:

  • Click — shift the pieces in that row or column

Cutting:

  • Click — place block/wall/scissors
  • W — select block tool/flip scissors
  • A — rotate block 15 degrees/rotate scissors left
  • S — select wall tool/flip scissors
  • D — rotate block 5 degrees/rotate scissors right

Embroidery:

  • Same as above, but replace scissors with needle

ORDER OF OPERATIONS

Conveyor belt

Cutting

  • Start scissors
  • Place blocks and walls

Embroidery

  • Place any combination of two blocks or walls
  • Start needle
  • Place rest of blocks, walls, and needles

Storyboard

KimaMevanan is a first-time level 3 player. Her starting board looks like this:

GCPP-Compere-Storyboard1.PNG

Looking at the board, she sees that her patterns are now 3x3 instead of 2x3. She also notices that she still has 100 moves. To begin, she thinks, Where should I start? I think I'll try the "A"s first. In the light of her plan, she moves column 3 and column 12 down one row. Then she moves row 2 over one column. Next she moves columns 4, 5, and 12 down another row. Oops! The left-sided "A" moved with the piece I was trying to match it to. Lemme think this over... Thinking, she notices that there's a clear spot two spaces to the right. Maybe if I go there, I can move my upper three "A"s down and meet up with two of the middle three. Seizing her chance, she moves row 3 over two columns, columns 6, 7, and 12 down a row, and moves row 4 over 2 columns. Continuing and using moves, she eventually gets both piece sets together correctly, adding 250 points to her score, though she had to center it a few times, so no "no centering" bonus. In the end she used up 57 moves, adding 350 points to her score in bonuses.

Her screen then changes to this:

GCPP-Compere-Storyboard2.PNG

The shape, though awkward, will give her 310 points assuming she gets it all perfect. This'll be a tricky one, considering the curve, she thinks, but I can do this. Now, where should I start? I think the long line facing towards the curve will work. Aiming, the scissors start towards the curve from the corner. If all goes well, I may earn a few extra points for shaving that piece off! The hard part comes. She draws the curve, following the line close to exactly. No gouges there, she thinks, but the change will be tough. She places the curve, but barely misses the scissors. Bouncing awry, they gouge towards the corner of curve and straight. Acting fast, she places a red block and bounces the scissors up along the line.

That stank, but at least it didn't go too far out. When the cutting is done, she earns a total of 265 points. The cut cloth falls off around the pattern, as well as the mistake area.

Her cloth is in the final phase now, looking like this:

GCPP-Compere-Storyboard3.PNG

Taking note of here supplies and what the customer wants, she thinks of what to do. I have 10 blocks and 2 walls. Even though the pattern has a curve, it's sharp enough that I won't get a gouge deduction with using red blocks. She starts on the higher end of the z-like figure. Quickly, she places two blocks down and traces the "z." To finish, she caps off the ends so it won't go off figure.

A minute passes, and the pattern enlarges. No deductions mean expert embroidery. The total for this cloth is 1,865 points. Comfortable, she continues playing her cloths, happy with her first cloth.

Scoring

Score depends on the pattern and how well they followed the pattern in embroidery and cutting, as well as bonuses collected. Pattern scores are determined by how many pieces you used, how much you went off the path, how many curves there are, and how many straight lines there are. Some scoring formulas are shown below:

  • Curve scoring: 100(number of curves that go until the line straightens for at least 1/2 a centimeter)
  • Straight line scoring: 50(number of lines that go straight for at least 1/2 a centimeter)
  • Gouge deductions: -50 per gouge
  • Red block deductions: -5 per block
  • Grey wall deductions: -10 per wall
  • Embroidery pattern perfect: 1,000
  • Embroidery deductions for off pattern: -50 per nudge and/or centimeter off of the pattern

The level for skill is shown below (embroidery in parenthesis):

  • Basic: 0-15,000 (0-500)
  • Skilled: 15,001-30,000 (500-750)
  • Expert: 30,001+ (750-1,000)

Variability

Bonuses can be attached during the embroidery phase. Bonuses will drop from the top of the screen and fall. In order to attach a bonus, a player must start a needle where it won't overlap the embroidery, or else you lose points during the embroidery phase. If they start the needle on time, the needle will trace the bonus and secure it. The list of bonuses are written below, starting from best to worst, with score and chance:

  • Medal (+1,000) [5%]
  • Ribbon (+500) [7.5%]

——Separator——

  • Pocket (+250) [10%]
  • Button (4 hole) (+125) [15%]

——Separator——

  • Button (2 hole) (+63) [20%]
  • Pin (+32) [30%]

Other bonuses include:

  • Retractor on conveyor belt (draws items 1 square diagonally adjacent together) [No score]
  • No centering bonus (didn't use center button) [+500]
  • <75 moves bonus (didn't use more than 75 moves) [+100]
  • <50 moves bonus (didn't use more than 50 moves) (stacks with <75) [+250]
  • <25 moves bonus (didn't use more than 25 moves) (stacks with <50 and <75) [+350]
  • Multicloth bonus (can do more than one cloth on cutting and embroidery phase)
  • All complete bonus (made all shapes in one turn) [+250]

End criteria

Complete ten cloth items.

Difficulty scaling

In the beginning, they get the lower third of bonuses. At skilled, they get the lower and middle third. At renowned, they get the full version. Also, the size of the patterns, the number of usable red blocks, and the number of usable grey blocks changes per level:

  • Level-Size-Red blocks-Grey blocks
  • 1-2*2-10-1
  • 2-2*3-10-2
  • 3-3*3-10-3
  • 4-3*4-10-4
  • 5-4*4-10-5
  • 6-4*5-11-6
  • 7-5*5-12-7
  • 8-5*6-13-8
  • 9-6*6-14-9
  • 10-6*7-15-10
  • 11-7*7-16-11

Other difficulty changes are moving embroidery obstacles, solid pattern pieces, stranger patterns, and moving cutting obstacles.

Crafting type

Tailoring, though easily adjustable for furnishing.

Known problems

The curve system and block placing might be a bit confusing.

Notes

  • Please discuss/suggest changes to this this on the forum and only change to spell check if it's needed
  • The embroidery phase lasts a minute
  • Walls are placed by clicking on two points to create a straight line, then pulling the line into the curve the player desires
  • Blocks and walls are of unlimited access
  • You do not see the blocks and walls before they are placed
  • Images are upcoming
  • Storyboard is upcoming
  • The "Shape" button drops the movement counter to zero
  • The "Center" button uses 2 moves and moves all pieces to the upper-left
  • When the "Center" button is used, all adjacent pre-use pieces stay in that position post-use
